There's So Much More To Zodiac Signs Than I Thought

Is it really possible to have more than one?

Most of you know what your zodiac sign is, but did you know you have a sun and moon sign as well?

Both your sun and moon sign not only take your physical birth date but the time and location as well. For myself, my zodiac is Capricorn, my moon is Cancer, and my sun is a Capricorn.

I've always had a fascination with my zodiac sign and my horoscopes (which are totally fake and all the same by the way) and astrology. However, it wasn't until I watched a YouTube video by Kathleen Lights that I really started doing research on my zodiac.

In the video, Kathleen mentioned her own fascination with zodiacs and introduced me to the concept of sun and moon signs.

She also mentioned that when she learned she had different zodiacs, it made more sense to her since she had never really felt that she had all the attributes to her main zodiac. This is what really sucked me in, because there are parts of me that are nothing like a Capricorn at all. So let's dive in to what all three of these signs even mean.

Astrological signs are said to have originated in Babylonian astrology. Wikipedia states that it was later influenced by Hellenistic culture.

We are all familiar however with the Western astrology that comes from these. It consists of the twelve signs we know of, which are twelve 30 degree sectors of the ecliptic. Most people associate the sign of January (Aquarius mainly) as the first sign as it is the start of the year, when actually Aries is the start of the astrological signs.

Each sign has a symbol and a gloss to go along with it. Many people and businesses have taken the symbol and the gloss and combined them into one image. For example, my gloss for a Capricorn is the mountain sea-goat. Artists have found a way to draw the gloss and integrate the symbol into the drawing. You can kind of tell in the drawing how it very closely resembles the symbol.

Your astrological signs also have rulers. Your main zodiac sign is ruled by one of the 9 rulers: Sun, Moon, Jupiter, Uranus, Mercury, Venus, Neptune, Saturn, and Mars. My ruler is Saturn, which means that there are many obstacles that come my way. Saturn also reflects my responsibilities and practical behavior.

A Capricorns lucky numbers are 4, 8, 13, and 22. I had always considered 8 to be my lucky number before I even started educating myself on my zodiac, which I thought was pretty cool.

Your sun and moon sign both are a little bit easier to interpret. These are simply determined on the position of the sun and moon when you were born, all in terms of date, time, and place. These can sometimes be the same as your zodiac, as my moon is also a Capricorn.

My sun being a Cancer was really interesting to research, however. So I did a little research and compiled a lot about Capricorns and Cancers that I really feel that I can relate myself too, and surprisingly, it was a pretty even mixture of both signs. I figured I would've leaned more heavily to one side than the other, but I'm sure everyone is different.

The main strengths of a Capricorn is that they are responsible, disciplined, have good self-control, and make good managers. I am not someone who is very well disciplined, and I don't always have self-control. Looking at a Cancer's strengths, they are highly imaginative, loyal, emotional, sympathetic, and persuasive. While I may not be very persuasive, I relate much more to the strengths of a Cancer than a Capricorn.

Cancers are really into art, relaxing near water, helping loved ones, and having a meal with friends and family. Capricorns really enjoy, music, tradition, family, and quality craftsmanship. Once again, I tend to lean more towards the Cancer side of likes, aside from family and music from the Capricorn side.

However, I truly relate to the weaknesses of a Capricorn; those being: a know-it-all, condescending, and expecting the worst. These are all bad qualities I see in myself at times and I work really hard to be better about them. Being a Capricorn also means that I'm prone to guilt and can be distant, which I have really been feeling lately. A major thing about Cancers that I relate to is that they are very eager to help others and also avoid conflict.

It's also really cool if you research and read into each of your glosses. Being a sea-goat for a Capricorn and a crab for cancer, it's amazing to compare the two contrasting signs and really see what parts of each really describe who I am. I hope this sparked your interest in your signs and qualities and here's the site I used to calculate mine below along with a great site that describes each sign. Happy zodiac and self-learning!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
