Much like the Alabama song says, there are angels among us. Regardless if you are a religious person or not, this statement is fairly true. Everyone has someone, or multiple someones, who are like an angel to them, helping them when they are in need. That someone could be physically around or around in spirit. I, personally, believe that I have many angels who watch over me.
One of those angels being my late maternal grandmother, or Mamaw as I call her. Though she is no longer here physically, I know that she watches over me and gives me strength to go on day-to-day from above. She was one of my favorite people as a kid, although some wouldn't think so with some of the things that I have labeled her as. I mean, I was a little kid and kids do say the darndest things! I have some of her old jewelry, and out of all of it, the one thing I wear on a daily basis is a diamond ring. It gives me the feeling that she is close to me always when I wear that ring.
Another angel that I have is my mom. She is my best friend, my support, and my number one fan among other things. Sure, she picks on me sometimes, and I her, but she is always there for me when I am in need, no matter what. There may be times where she doesn't truly know how much she really means to me, but my mom is, essentially, my everything. She is the very first person I go to when something happens, whether good or bad.
Pets can be angels as well. My late cat, Frankie, is another angel of mine. He was my first real best friend, aside from my mom. (Yes, a cat was my best friend, I'll admit to it with no shame.) He always knew when I needed someone to just be a listener, always being there when I needed someone to talk to. He was my protector of sorts, looking out for me to make sure I was okay. I believe, no, I know that he is sitting up in Heaven right next to my mamaw helping her watch over me, being my guide when I need to be directed in the right direction.
Another pet of mine who is my angel is my dog, Sam. She, too, is my best friend and I couldn't ask for a better one. She protects me when she believes I'm getting hurt and always makes sure I'm in her line of vision. Sam reminds me that there is still some innocence left in this world, although she isn't exactly an innocent being (she gets into the trash and steals my food right off of my fork!), her eyes just make me think that she's one of the most innocent beings on this earth. She is one of the main things that keep me going during the week as I know I get to see her over the weekend.
Angels don't just have to be someone that you know, they can be some random person who you've never seen before that has helped you with something that meant a lot to you. To a homeless person, anyone who gives them anything, whether it be money, food, drink, or clothing, is an angel. They helped make that person feel like there are still people who care and that complete strangers can be the best thing that could happen to them.
To recap, angels are everywhere and everyone has at least one, regardless of religious beliefs or not. Someone's angel may also be someone to whom they have no knowledge of, just someone who helped me with something that meant a lot to them. Angels can be physically or spiritually around us, guiding and helping us when they think we are need in of help and saving.
