The Month of August: Told By a College Student

Well, we didn't think we would make it, but we did! We survived our summer at home and we are back here in our beloved college town, with all of our friends. It truly is one of the best months of the year, getting to go back to our favorite place. The four weeks of this month are actually some of the best weeks of the year, and here is an explanation of why.

The first week: I'M BAAAAAAAAACK!

I'm back. My friends are back. My sisters are back. THE SQUAD IS BACK. We are all back and so is that guy that hurt my feelings last semester, but I don't care because I'm in such a good mood right now and nobody will bring me down. We are all dying to go out and be reunited, but our recruitment chair says we can't, and I wouldn't cross her right now. So, we'll just go out to eat at our favorite Mexican place instead.

The second week:

It's recruitment workshop week and we are steadily preparing for recruitment and getting ready to bring in new girls. We haven't slept, we spend every moment of every day together, and even though I'm enjoying all my time catching up and hanging out with my sisters, at the end of the day I just want to go lay in bed in silence. But, we must persevere, because we won't sleep until after the third week of this month anyway.

The third week:

Classes have started back up and I have to actually act like an adult again and be responsible. I have to remember that I am in college for an education and a degree and not to play around all the time. Plus, recruitment is finally beginning and I have to be on my A-game every moment of every day. I'm glad it's syllabus week because I have so much going on that I really wouldn't have time for school anyway.

Update: I still haven't been out and I am getting a little bit of FOMO from everyone else who has. However, I must keep going. I see the light at the end of the tunnel.

The fourth week:

Recruitment is over and we got the best group of new girls possible! Suddenly, I am told by multiple professors that I have tests and quizzes next week and to be studying. Studying? I don't even have my books yet. Syllabus week is no more and I must get back into the swing of everything school related. However, Thursday is upon us, so it will have to wait.

Ah, goodbye August. You come and go so soon, but thank you for the all the memories you provide us with at the beginning of the school year.

Hello, September. You are full of work and tests, but this also means football season and the best Saturdays of the year with my best friends.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
