Today, social networks are one of our main sources of information. Recently, multiple #'s (hashtags), have been on most of our timelines and newsfeeds for the past couple of weeks. These hashtags include: #BlackLivesMatter, #AllLivesMatter, #BlueLivesMatter and the most recent, #AllJobsMatter.
Recently, I wrote an article discussing the common misconception of the Black Lives Matter # and movement. Many social media users have said that the movement isn't inclusive and some have even gone to the extreme by stating that the organization is a terrorist group. However, Black Lives Matter simply is trying to express to the unaffected community, that Black Lives do indeed MATTER, in light of recent acts of police brutality and lack of punishment for offenders. Nonetheless, some people felt the need (no actual need), to express their disapproval of the movement by creating #AllLivesMatter. Many claim that their use of All Lives Matter is trying to include all human life and that all lives are equal and need to be represented by a reminder, i.e. the #. However, the flaw is that the Black Lives Matter movement never said #OnlyBlackLivesMatter. The goal was to inform the public of the injustices that Black people face in America. So by saying #AllLivesMatter you are completely disregarding Black lives. If you don't see my argument I will express it again by using the remaining #'s.
Let's discuss, #BlueLivesMatter. *DISCLAIMER* #BlueLivesMatter and #BlackLivesMatter are not the same. It was used in retaliation to the Black Lives Matter movement and has a different motive. The rate of police deaths by civilians is significantly lower than the rate of Black deaths by officers. But that's tea for another article. Nonetheless, people felt that #BlueLivesMatter wasn't inclusive and created #AllJobsMatter. The following image was in response to the hashtag.
Of course the #BlueLivesMatter crowd felt some disgust. The second tweet is similar to reactions of #BlackLivesMatter vs. #AllLivesMatter. Clearly, these two tweets show the irony of the two hashtags. If one could see that #BlueLivesMatter isn't discriminatory and that "police are under attack" how could you not regard the Black Lives Matter movement in the same manner? This, my friends, is the Hypocrisy of the Hashtag and racism in general.
