Who knows how much this distracted from actual cases of sexual assault?

Remember that story about the girl named "Jackie" who claimed she was brutally gang raped by members of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity at the University of Virginia? I already wrote about how the story has been proven to be completely fabricated, and now I'm happy to report that "Jackie," whose name is still confidential, has been summoned to appear before a judge on April 5, 2016.

When the original "story" broke, UVA erupted into chaos. The Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house was vandalized and brothers of the house received numerous death threats. People all across the country called for Greek life to get disbanded.

It was recently revealed that Jackie made up this hoax so a crush would come to her rescue.

According to Total Frat Move, "After a student named Ryan Duffin rejected her advances, she started texting him under a made-up boy’s name, Haven Monahan. She used photos of a classmate from her high school in Northern Virginia to trick Duffin into thinking Monahan was real. Monahan would be the one to eventually 'rape' Jackie in the Phi Kappa Psi house."

Apparently, Duffin found Monahan's interest in Jackie pretty weird. He has recalled how he once received a text from Monahan that said, "Get this, she said she likes some other first-year guy who doesn't like her and turned her down, but she won't date me cause she likes him."

I'm not sure what makes less sense. That text, or the fact that Jackie used the name Haven Monahan.

Rolling Stone is still facing a $25 million lawsuit from Phi Kappa Psi. That lawsuit combined with Jackie's summons could help set a precedent for false rape accusations from this moment forward.

Rape is a serious issue. Proven perpetrators of rape need to be severely punished. But at the same time, people who make false accusations need to be punished as well, as their actions take precious time away needed to solve and prevent actual future instances of rape and sexual assault.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
