Podcasting has technically been around since the 1980s, known as "adioblogging," but really started to take off in late 2004 with the creation and popularity of the internet. Vlogs saw their popularity begin in late 2005. These formats can cover a range of topics and content.
There are podcast for discussions of recent events like Geekkast which discuss recent film releases. There are podcasts for having fun while having intelligent conversations like Round Robin which answers questions from Reddit, Yahoo, and viewer submitted questions. There are podcasts of people play Dungeon and Dragons like Pretty Wizard which follows the the tale of the adventurers, Marco, Abzael, and Leaf. There are infinite possibilities to the world of podcasts. (All of the named podcasts are produced by students of Stevenson University)
Vlogs, or video logs, have two types; personal vlogs and live broadcasting vlogs. The personal vlogs are pre-recorded while the live ones are.. well.. live! Vloggers may go out of their way to create interesting content for their viewers.
My old roommate Jen Schemp. While she lived with me, her camera was always by her side, prepared to record our antics. She usually got some good stuff but there were times when class and life just made things boring so she had activities planned for those times. Other vloggers like PrinceIce85 cover a variety of topics like parodies, story times, and whatever their heart desires. There are vlogs that follow families or beloved pets like Gatsby the Corgi!
There is still more to the internet like Let's Players, Streamers, Tutorials, and many, many more but they have been swept under the rug with the daunting wave of podcasts and vlogs.
Since history is always repeating itself, I wonder what will come to replace these podcasts and vlogs.
