Being a vegetarian, I always get a lot of negative comments:
"Why don't you eat meat? You're going to die!"
"I don't like people who don't like meat."
"Are you serious? Get out." (Someone has really said that to me before)
I'm actually a pescatarian, meaning I eat fish and dairy products, but not red meats or poultry; yet oftentimes, there are many voices questioning me.Through all the hate, other vegetarians and myself find it hard to adjust to our lifestyles when moving to a new place.
St. John Fisher and Lackmann, however, are very supportive of this lifestyle. You may not know this, but Fisher has many vegetarian, even vegan, options:
1. The Pan Asia station in the dining hall offers tofu stir fry
2. Soy milk dispensers in the dining hall next to the pasta station
3. Fresh fruits and veggies at the salad bar and oddly by the toaster
4. Grilled cheese and tomato almost every day for lunch at Cardinal cafe
5. The pasta station, with at least one vegetarian-friendly sauce at each meal (sometimes all three are!)
7. Vegan protein powder for your smoothies at cardinal
8. Signs all over the dining hall indicating whether or not a food is vegetarian-friendly (Though sometimes the little cards are not filled out, you can always ask!)
9. Tofu available all day at the salad bar
10. Tofu nachos at Fishbowl
11. The occasionally monthly special of hummus plates at Fishbowl
12. Soy/Almond milk available in the coolers at cyber, cardinal and Pioch cafe
13. Fresh salads available at all three cafes
14. The shuttle runs to Pittsford Plaza on Fridays, which has a Trader Joe's filled with all of your favorite vegetarian/vegan treats
15. There's always plain cheese pizza when there's free pizza
Fisher cares, even if you don't eat meat! There's definitely some options around campus that I missed, but have no fear! If you're a new vegetarian or a seasoned rabbit food eater, Fisher has you covered!
