IT'S HERE. October is my favorite month of the year, because it's 31 glorious days of pure fall activities. November and December carry holiday chaos and mayhem, but with October comes all the lovely joys of autumn- and I'm here to share with you 8 of my favorite fall festivities that you'll definitely want to do before the month is over.
1. Go apple picking.
I did this for the first time last week in Ellijay with some friends, and it's definitely going to become an annual thing for me now. There's nothing like eating a delicious, juicy apple fresh off the tree, and gallivanting through the orchard to find all the best ones.
2. Hit up a haunted corn maze.
These are the best. I remember the first time I went to one, I was terrified out of my mind until I realized they’re actually super predictable. This is the best place to go with that guy or gal you like, because you have an excuse to comfort them or grab their hand without being weird. For real, haunted corn mazes are so fun—what's October without a little spook?
3. Throw on a pullover and go hiking.
If you live in the mountains like I do, this is a no-brainer. Hiking in October is my favorite, because the crisp fall breeze feels amazing, and I love seeing all the beautiful, bright colors of the leaves.
4. Find a drive-in movie theater.
This is super fun in October, because it's cool enough outside to burrow under blankets in the back of a truck and sip hot chocolate, but not cold enough to turn blue and get hypothermia. Going to a drive in movie makes me feel like a character from "Grease," which is just an added bonus.
5. Pick a pumpkin and carve it.
After you pick the perfect, plump pumpkin, you have to carve it—that's half the fun! There's so much you could create, and it becomes the cutest little decoration. You also get to play with knives, which is always fun.
6. Make apple cider and watch Halloween movies.
There's nothing like the smell, spice, and sweetness of apple cider. Combine that with some suspenseful Halloween movies, and you've got yourself a winning night in.
7. Thrift shop for sweaters.
*Cue "Sweater Weather" by the Neighborhood* You didn't think I was going to write a whole article about fall without mentioning cozy sweaters, did you? This is also something I did last week with a friend—hit up your local thrift shop for tacky and cozy sweaters. Fall is upon us, so judgement for crazy sweaters is lacking. Thrifting sweaters is 100 times more fun and a lot nicer on your wallet.
8. HAVE A BONFIRE.
Nothing screams "FALL IS HERE" like huddling around a warm fire, scouts style, with your closest friends (bring that one musical friend who always has his guitar for some tunes), and of course some mouth-watering s'mores.
Go forth and enjoy the greatest month given to us.
