You will see the same people every day.
At larger schools, such as SF State, you almost never see the same person twice. But at a small school like USF, you begin to see familiar faces every day, especially when you live on campus. Whether you're walking to class, sitting in the dining hall, or studying in the library, you will run into the same set of people.
As the year goes on, you'll start making friends with them, because not only do you both love to do laundry at 3 P.M. on Wednesdays, but you also get your coffee at the same place, walk the same way to class, and go to the same floor of the library to study. (Mainly because there is really only one place to do those things). By the end of the semester, you'll know where exactly to find a friend if you're bored and looking for something to do.
You will see the same. people. every. day.
It needs to be said twice. Although the familiarity with your fellow students adds to a sense of community, it also creates a sense of entrapment. At a big state-school, you can easily avoid seeing the same person twice. But at a college where there are only eleven thousand students, two freshman dorm buildings, one main dining hall*, and a campus that only expands about seven blocks, avoiding someone is nearly impossible.
If you're walking to class, they're probably walking back the same way. If you're getting dinner, they're probably already there. The caf is a danger zone the morning after a big party, where everyone is trying to dodge the person they hooked up with or threw up on the night before. No place is safe anymore. Do yourself a MAJOR favor and avoid getting on bad terms with anyone, as you will definitely see them again. And again. Until you graduate.
*(in my heart, LoMo doesn't count. I'm not taking twenty flights of stairs for a greasy slice of pizza, ever)
