The Traveler's Perspective

42

To travel is to experience the world beyond one’s own perception. Surrounded by novelty, the traveler’s perspective is constantly altered, shaped and reborn as each fresh experience unfolds. With every passing moment, the traveler emerges from his former self into the light of greater understanding; not only of the dynamic world around him, but of the human experience as a whole.
I have been abroad in many different places. I have swam the shores of the Mediterranean, and stood atop the coastal cliffs of Cantabria. I have shared meals with old men in Italy and young women in Spain. And yet, I have only just begun to experience what this world has to show me. I live for the opportunity to learn and to grow from my experiences. When I travel, I do so every day. There are new faces at every bend, just waiting to be noticed, longing to share their stories. There hasn’t been a single journey I embarked on that did not provide me with life-long friends by the time it had ended. That’s the beauty of such a journey however: with profound connections made, the journey never really ends. It just continues, with new paths carved that weren’t available before.
An experience abroad can be so many things depending on the traveler. For me, each new harbor is a place to learn lessons (on many different levels) in my life as it exists in this moment. It is a destination to explore a culture in which I can plant roots of curiosity, understanding, and personal development. It is a teacher of language from which I can cultivate my most sincere ability to connect with others. It is a gift of new perspective; that I may pass on wherever I may go.
This is how I have come to understand it; but what will travel be for you? An ever-blissful memory…a new way of life? Will you let go of what holds you back? Break away from all you believe this life to be in the wake of all you never dreamt it could be? I suppose that is up to you.

In closing I share with you my favorite quote on the matter (often erroneously attributed to Mark Twain). However, despite the validity of its origins, the message is clearer than any sea your travels may reveal.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
