The Things You do in College

Free stuff? I'm there. Free food? I'm there.

The Things You do in College

I suppose another title for this piece could be "The weird things you do in college" or "the weird things college makes you do", but we'll just call them things for now. From eating to sleeping to studying, college students live a specific way, not quite as civilized as the rest of our nation and probably most of our families. But there is a positive in all of this, it's college! That's always a phrase you can use if you are a college student in regards to these weird or random tactics. Let's take a look.

Put together weird concoctions of food because it’s all you have left.

I have a personal relationship with this "thing" because I honestly can say I do this all the time. It's not weird for me to put random ingredients on my chicken even if it doesn't make sense.

Set your alarm for a very specific amount of time, like a 13 minute nap between classes.

This one has happened to me several times because sometimes I really need those extra minutes of sleep.

Hold off on doing laundry until you're down to your last pair of underwear.

It's time.

Wait until the last minute to complete 80-90% of your assignments.

I feel like I was much more responsible with my assignments in high school. Now I wait until the last minute to study and to start papers, but I'm trying not to do this so much.

Planning your day around when you will eat.

If I wake up by 9 and then I eat at 10 I can probably fit my homework in between there and hanging out with my friends later. But then I have to make sure I have time for lunch. And dinner can't be too early either.

Doing those things that you aren't always proud of.

This goes without an explanation and you can interpret it as you like. College is the time to make mistakes because it only helps us learn and grow as we become real-world adults.

Going to events for the free stuff. Every. Single. Time.

Once you start getting free stuff, you just can't stop.

Going to events for the food.

As soon as someone mentions food for an upcoming event, every student is there. A free meal means a lot especially if you are paying for your own food or you're sick of eating at the dining hall.

Planning to be productive, but it just doesn't happen.

There are always those days when you are so ready and so prepared to get everything done, clean the whole apartment, and maybe even prep some meals for the week. But instead, you lay in bed for hours doing absolutely nothing.

Planning to do something but continually pushing back the time because is 1 hour really a big deal?

This happens often. It's almost become inevitable.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
