When I say it's a struggle, I am not over exaggerating. Any college student can attest to how difficult it is to balance school, a social life, have a job, and simply relax. As I am writing this, I am reflecting on the two miserable weeks I had full of exams, essays, and presentations. Again, I am not over exaggerating this.
All of the students here at the University of Delaware have been going through midterms and huge exams as well. It's just part of the whole college experience. But when is enough, actually enough? When is it time to put down that pencil, close the textbooks, and leave Morris Library? Some say 2 am in the morning when the library closes, but that is very unhealthy to say the least. I learned first hand experience that it's really not worth it a majority of the time.
Of course, we all strive for one hundreds on all examinations. Sometimes, as much as you study, you won't receive that grade you want. In fact, that is the worst feeling. That feeling when you cram and cram the entire week, and still do poorly. That is the absolute worst feeling.
My best advice that I can give everyone here is that if you tried your hardest, that is all you can do. I know you probably heard this phrase about a million times from your parents, but it's very true. I will be honest in that it won't get easier, however, if you try to your fullest potential, you will eventually feel good about yourself.
There is no need in having that negative energy in your life that exams give you. You need to look at exams with a different eye; a positive eye.
There is a point where you need to put down that pencil, leave the library, make a cup of hot tea, and go to sleep at a reasonable hour. This is just as important, and maybe even more important than studying for your exams or writing your essays.
This will go far for you in the long run. In the morning, feeling more refreshed than you have felt in weeks, you will want to go to the library, or even a coffee shop such as Central Perk or Brew Ha Ha and study there.
Since your brain shuts off at a particular hour, which is different for everyone, you have more luck to study in the morning and actually retain and understand the information. Take it from a sophomore girl who needs to study hard to do decent.
So when is it time to make that decision between having the night to relax and hanging out with friends or hibernating at Morris Library? This is when you know it's time: when your focus wonders off into oblivion.
If you've been focused for such a long duration of time, eventually your mind will tell you to stop and go enjoy the rest of your day or night. This is when you live life and be with the people that make you happy and feel good about yourself.
I myself am doing exactly that. I don't want to worry about any exams or homework until Sunday night as I will be enjoying my weekend relaxing, drinking tea, and watching Netflix movies! I advise everyone to do the same, to really be happy here in Delaware.
As work is all of our top priorities, college is also about making new friends, receiving great opportunities, and learning about yourself. So, put that textbook down and half a night!
