Katy's POV:

Dear Diary,

Today is the first day of high school! I am so nervous to start since I am just a freshman. I am going to Jillianna High. Yes! it is a public school that all the rich kids go to but the thing is that I am not so rich and my dad is working three jobs to get food and other things for me and my little sister. I really owe a lot to my dad and I know he does this for me since mom left. He has always been trying to prove himself. He doesn't need to prove himself though he is the best dad in the whole world.

There is one person on my mind that I know does not know exactly who I am but I hope she would. Her name is Hope and she lives in a nicer side of Philadelphia. She is a popular girl who loves all the attention and I am not just the girl with no friends. I know I have only spoken a few words to her a couple of years ago when we started school but all I am is invisible since everyone looks right past me all the time.

Well enough of me gushing about my lonely life I should probably start to head out to school so I do not be late on my first day!

See you later.

All the Love,

Katy Freedman

------------------------

I bookmarked the page before closing it and resting it underneath my pillow for when I get back. I Sit up and straighten out my uniform before grabbing my bag filled with all of the suppliesI would need for the first day. I walk out of my room and grab an apple then I head out the door to exit the apartment building. I pull my backpack further up my shoulder while I start my walk to the bus stop. As soon as I arrive at the stop I begin to rethink my decision on going to this school and just going straight to work. I wait patiently watching all of the women and men come and go as the bus finally arrives after what seems to be forever.

I climb onto the bus stop remembering that my best friend Carrie has moved to a different state. I sit down on one of the open seats and pull out a book while I wait for my stop to arrive.

**30 mins later**

The bus comes to a screeching halt signaling that it has arrived at my stop as I get off of my seat and rush out of the bus door before it shuts. I walk up the steps and onto the busy street filled with businessmen and businesswomen who are all too busy in their own world. I walk all the way to the entrance of the school. The street is filled with limos and fancy dressed teen girls and boys.

Hope's POV:

I am back at the school that I am not wanting to be attending anymore. I am a junior with the high hopes of attending a good college or start my own business. As soon as I step out of the Mercedes that I got for my 16th birthday I am swarmed by my group of friends all chatting about the up coming dance and who did their homework for classes this morning. I slip my arm through Joy's arm walking into the entrance passing a girl who looks young enough to be a freshman. I take a quick glance at her noticing her long brown hair and gorgeous hazel eyes. I have only seen her around once and kinda have a crush on her and hope to get a chance to speak to her soon.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
