November in college is a time where many students become stressed from anything and everything ranging from work, to school, and to whatever social life activities are happening. Most of the stress on college students is caused by the student themselves. We are all familiar (and some guilty) with the "gets assigned a paper in August, waits until the very night before to finish" situation. Here is when all-nighters are generally pulled in college. I recently just pulled my first true all-nighter, and let me just say it was the absolute worst mistake of my life. Will I do it again? Probably. There are many stages in the all-nighter "process" and only those who have pulled a true all- nighter can understand them:
Stage 1 : Regret
Note to self: never wait until the night before to completely finish a research paper if you have known about it since August.
Stage 2 : Acceptance
After denying and regretting your bad decision making, accepting the fact that you have made a horrible mistake is all part of the fun involved in all-nighters.
Stage 3 : Prepare
The time has come for you to sit down and actually plan out how you are going to make this night as productive as possible.
Stage 4 : Procrastinate some more
At some point (maybe multiple times) in the night, there will come a time for a study "break", which can range from a five-minute "get up and move around" break to a four hour nap "break".
Stage 5 : Panic
Stages of panic will come at different points in the night, but it be like that sometimes.
Stage 6 : Pulling yourself together
It is very important to not break down any through out the night. It is okay to just accept you are a mess.
Stage 7 : Actually working
Who knew how much you could get accomplished when you actually sit down and focus?
Stage 8 : Decline
We all know that 3 a.m. decline when the struggle to hold you head up is so real.
Stage 9 : Victory
Nothing says sweet victory like celebrating you finishing your assignment by watching the sun rise.
Stage 10 : Aftermath
The aftermath of it all means one thing : total and complete exhaustion. But hey, you finished and thats all that matters.
