It's the time of year where we are all counting down the days until summer. We're looking forward to laying out by the pool, going to the lake and getting super tan on our beach trips. We get so excited that we even keep countdown apps on our phones and set our lock screen photo to a throwback picture of the ocean from last year. But then we go bathing suit shopping and realize that the Victoria's Secret model body that we need isn't quite there yet. So we're left with no choice — we have to go on a diet. It sounds easy at first, but abandoning your eating habits of pizza and chocolate cake every day is a lot harder than it seems. Here are the 11 stages of a diet:
1. Going out and buying all new workout gear.
From clothes to shoes to GPS running watches, you're set for it all. You're even ready for those super cute gym selfies. Because if you don't post about your #gainz, did it even happen?
2. You make sure everyone knows you're on a diet.

No mom, I can't have fried chicken. How about lettuce instead?
3. ...and constantly being asked why.

Because I wanna look like a Victoria's Secret model, OK?
4. Making yourself drink only water...all the time.
Apparently it's good for you. But can I have something else?
5. Trying to find healthy stuff to eat.
For us picky eaters, this one can be extremely challenging. If it's green, I'm not eating it. If it looks like bird seed, I'm not eating it. Why can't good stuff be healthy? I've lost count of how many times I've had grilled chicken now.
6. Exercising.
Exercising sucks, especially when you're a college student. I can barely find time to sleep, now I have to actually be active? Maybe I'll ease into it and watch Netflix on my phone while on the treadmill... baby steps, right?
7. Eating one tiny bite of chocolate and feeling so guilty about it for the next three days.
Sorry, temptation got the best of me. But it was SO good.
8. Developing the habit of checking the nutrition information on everything you put in your mouth.
FYI, water has zero everything, I checked.
9. Looking forward to your first cheat day.
And eating everything you can't have. What a day that'll be. #noregrets
10. Trying different diet plans.
No-carb diet, low-fat diet, juice detoxes, paleo, we've tried it all. And by the way, none of them are enjoyable.
11. Deciding to push your diet off just a little longer.
Because it's been a long day, and all I want is three gallons of ice cream.
Don't worry, girls, we're all in this together.
