The silence woke her. She eased from her bed slowly stretching her feet so they could ease towards the floor. Touching the cold wood floor of her bedroom. As she opened her eyes wiping the sleep from her eyes as the room came into focus. This wasn’t her room.
The cold floor she thought was wood was smooth like cement. In a panic, she screamed turning for the unicorn light on her nightstand, but it wasn't there. She trembled in fear as a buzzing shot through the room granting her light.
She took in her surrounding, a tear flowed slowly down her cheek as she looked in front of her, behind her, and below. A glass cell? In the reflection, a thin, bald person was looking at her crying with a recently shaved head, dark rounded eyes, a tatter hospital gown, dirty, and a cracked bloodied lips.
A shriek ripped from her throat as she turned and huddled into a corner of the room away from the frightening figure in the cell next to her. Inhaling deeply through her nose she smelled chalk, blood, and a sour feminine order.
“Please. No. no” she whispered closing her eyes tightly, rocking back and forth refusing to see anything else in fear of what could be beside her now “That’s not me. That isn't me.”
“ Well, that's rude.” A calm, collected voice spoke as a wooshing door opened then closed. The clicking of high heels danced closer and closer to her. “ I think she’s rather lovely.”
Peeking over her knees she saw that she too was in a tattered gown, She began to hyperventilate as the piece came together as she slowly made her way to the top of her shaved and blistered head.
“what have you done to me? Where is this place?” the questions seem to tumble out in a stronger voice growing with panic“why have you done this to me?! I want my parents? Where is my husband Jack? Where is he? Where am I?”
“You don't remember? Poor, Bunny”. She said in a low voice, but she didn’t mean it. She had a thin pretty face with black cat glasses, sparkling blue eyes, her dark blonde hair was pulled into a professional high bun, and a small mole on her left cheek. A white blouse, navy blue slacks, and black heels.
Her thin frame was engulfed under a long white coat with splattered patches of dried blood marks on the bottom. Her smile sent chills down my spine as a shudder made me hold myself tightly. Moving away from her as she looked at the woman as though she was beyond something she had ever seen. She whispered low with her red lips framing brilliantly white teeth “curious.”
“Answer me!? Who are you? Where is my family!?Where is this place? Who brought me here? You cant keep me here!” She yelled standing up as the woman in the white coat began to walk away toward where she appeared from. Standing in the corner with her heart pounding in her ears. Questions bubbling into her head as She tried to think about yesterday. She was home yesterday with her husband, they were thinking of going on vacation.
“You will not be leaving this place, for your dear family couldn’t have put you here silly bunny.” The woman in the white coat turned smiling excitedly at her as she said with a giggle “you killed them all.”
The room went silent as screams echoed through her mind. Memories of blood painting her in the predawn Christmas light bombarded her, overwhelming her senses. Their smiling faces turned into screams and begging. Each one came into her mind with blood covering them. She whispered to herself “why would I do that?”
“That’s simple, Bunny, you're bonkers.” she chuckled clicking her tongue putting her hands into the deep pockets of the white coat “but don't worry you aren’t the only one here in Wonderland who has taken to murder nor are you the last. Oh yes, to answer your other question, I am Dr. Alice Wonders, I will be taking care of you for the remainder of what’s left of your life. Let’s do get along, Bunny, I’ll fetch you dinner around eight. Now, I must go before I am late.”
