I recently started watching this show called 68 Whiskey. And I can say the show doesn't disappoint.
68 Whiskey is an American military comedy-drama based on the Israeli television series Charlie Golf One; which premiered on January 15 2020 on Paramount network. With the season ending on March 18th. The show was created by Robert Benabib and masterminded by Ron Howard. Many people are claiming the show is aiming to be the new M*A*S*H for a new generation. Following its dark humor with difficult topics and scenarios mimicking real life circumstances in the military.
The term "68 Whiskey" is used to describe combat medic specialist. They are required to complete a 10 week combat training course and a Advanced individual training session for 15-16 weeks; where they are taught emergency medical techniques and patient care. So the military follows real strong topics and reality start to end.
The show follows Medics that are deployed to a base in Afghanistan nicknamed "The Orphanage". The team features multicultural dynamics of men and women. When Cooper Roback (Sam Keeley) and Mekhi Davis (Jeremy Tardy) aren't choppering in and out of combat zones as part of the U.S. Army team, they're working angles and hustles to try turning war into something profitable. Their tiny schemes and rule-breaking cons are set in stark contrast to the well-paid mercenary force financed by an entity known as SecCorp.
With the show tackling the teams' issues in Afghanistan; but also their personal issues in deployment and issues with their families back at home. Many critics and fans raises similarities to M*A*S*H. Now M*A*S*H was a television show that appeared on CBS from 1972-1982. It was based on a 1968 novel with the same name. The show ironically follows a team of Doctors and Support Staff stationed in South Korea during the Korean War in the 1950s.
While many people; especially the older generation who grew with M*A*S*H is saying skip 68 Whiskey. I personally feel a show like 68 Whiskey shows the challenges that the military face in a different light.
