Every Time 'High School Musical' Was More Like 'College Musical'

We're all in this together.

Almost 12 years after High School Musical premiered, I still know all the lyrics and I still jam out every time it comes on. You'd be lying if you said this wasn't at least partially you.

One day while I was sitting in general chemistry, wanting to cry, I realized something. I realized that we all wanted to cry. It became clear to me that we were all in this together.

Even though High School Musical obviously takes place in a high school, many of the lyrics relate to college students on the daily.

Moving in and feeling like you have your life together

"We're soaring, flying, there's not a star in heaven that we can't reach"

HSM places this at the end of the first movie, but it's the perfect song to smart that semester grind. You have a clean dorm room, no work to do, and you seem to have your life together.

When you find out your friends are in your class

You can finally breathe a breath of relief. You know that no matter what, you've got your friends in class. You can study together, walk to your death (I mean test) together, and you know they've always got you covered when you skip class.

Walking to your first test

"I want fabulous, that is my simple request"

You go in with such high expectations. You prepped the material so well, you went to office hours, you know what you're doing.

Walking out of your first test

"This is not what I want, this is not what I planned and I just gotta say I do not understand"

You don't possibly know what went wrong. You must have studied the wrong material because that test was certainly not anything you knew.

Leaving your last class and going into "finals mode"

You've got one more week. You just have a couple more tests. You just need to put all your efforts into studying.

Leaving your last final

You've made it through the semester. Even though it might be winter, that's okay! It's time to kick back and relax.

Leaving Your Friends

"I gotta leave, but I'll miss you"

No matter how long you're going to be apart, saying goodbye always seems like the end of the world. You're so happy to be done with work but at this moment it feels like it will be an eternity before you see your friends.

Seeing your final grades

"Jason Cross, you did it, you graduated."- Ms. Darbus

Well you might have 7 semesters left to go, like me, the semester ending is still a huge accomplishment. You did it! You took hard classes and still made it through.

Once again, you feel on top of the world. Nothing can bring you down. Until of course, next semester rolls around.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
