Most, if not all of college students, are preparing for their future. We all desire to have a great and wonderful future in whatever we choose to do. When we achieve this goal, we define this whole process as a “come-up.” Everybody has their own definition of come-up but I define it as the course in which it takes to reach the success/break of your life goal. In other words, it is the “road to success.” For everyone who has this come up, I think it is important to remember the come-up but also ways to prepare for it.
We all know that the road to success was rough but do we actually remember how rough it was? We say that time was rough and that we knew it would be over someday but are we being true to ourselves? By this I mean when others ask us about this time, do we actually tell the truth? Do we tell all of our negative and positive thoughts going through our head at that time? Or do we lie and exaggerate the story to fit other people standards?
Sometimes we can get caught up in telling our stories in a way which is appealing but also untrue. It may be because we are self-conscious of ourselves or that a particular event on your road to success overwhelms you and may be uncomfortable to talk about. It is important that when we reach this peak (come-up) that we share our own personal story. It may not seem nice and unique to others but it is wonderful because it is your story. It made you into the person you are today and it also played a part in your come-up. While we are preparing for our come-up, we must do three important things will benefit us.
1. Remember/Learn
During this journey, we must remember and learn from our situations. We must Remember our mistakes and thoughts. It is important to remember our mistakes and thoughts because they are subject to change over time. Part of the reason that this happens is because we learn many different things and also learn from a different perspective. Educating ourselves helps us make better decisions and more intelligent.
2. Forgive
In life, we are going to encounter people who are not for our best interests or either strive to destroy you or try to force you into poor decision making. This will more than likely cause poor relations between both parties. We have to remember to forgive our enemies and people who are not in our best interests. Do not forgive just for them but for yourself. It can cause you to build up anger for that person and destroy yourself. Forgiving helps you transition through life more smoothly. Who knows, that person may be able to help you in the future.
3. Controlling Yourself
Always remember that you are in control of what you can control. This can be your appearance, decisions or actions. We have to realize that we cannot control everything that happens but we can control how we handle it. Situations come up and things just happen. By being in control of what you are able to control, you can handle a lot of life’s experiences and situations that benefits you.
By doing these three things, you will be able to handle your come-up in a way that is respectable and pleasing. Remember to tell your story of how you got where you are. Tell the truth!
