The Reign Of BuzzFeed's Tasty

It's changing the kitchen game... forever.

The Reign Of BuzzFeed's Tasty
BuzzFeed

You’ve seen them all over Facebook, BuzzFeed, and Twitter -- brief videos that manage to put together an entirely delicious, (usually) unhealthy meal in 15 seconds are all the rage right now (and they’re my new shameless addiction). You may also be thinking, what's the big deal about them? Why is everyone posting them everywhere? Tasty (a BuzzFeed channel) has almost 16 million followers on Facebook, and some of the other tip pages that post them have followers in the millions as well. So, what's their secret?

Let me just tell you why I love them so much: they’re a great way for people who don’t know how to cook to learn what ingredients go together well, they can give you new, easy ideas for meals that aren’t that complicated and they give me hope for my minimal cooking skills.

Sure, they use refrigerated biscuits and Velveeta most of the time, but some of the ethnic recipes posted actually provide a great look into why/how these dishes are made in their specific way. They give you a low-key way to learn how to put food together. I definitely know how to make stew and a really good cheese sauce after watching just a few! Plus, the basic seasonings that go in any given dish are always good to know. Unseasoned food is just sad.

Because a lot of them (and I mean a lot) use slow cookers, the recipes basically cook themselves with minimal effort from you. Think about it -- wouldn’t you want to throw some stuff in a Crock-Pot, let it simmer for eight hours, and then peek inside and see a delicious dinner that you barely had to touch? It sounds delicious to me!

Finally, I’ll be honest here: I need recipes to cook. I’m not a culinary wizard; I’d much rather order dinner or make one of the few dishes I can from scratch than try and figure out my own concoction. When I do, it rarely turns out well. Although I’m not the best cook, I know that I am definitely capable of making these recipes, which makes me hopeful that I can eventually step up my kitchen game.

Don't these bad boys look delicious?

Sure, some people probably get annoyed by these videos, and sure, they’re not for everyone. But for people like me who don’t always have the best luck in the kitchen, they’re a great way to branch out your skills. And for busy bees, they’re even easier. I know I really appreciate these videos, and they're just fun to watch! You can easily kill 15 minutes watching loads of them and drooling everywhere. If you haven’t already, take a look at Tasty’s page on Facebook! You’ll probably find quite a few recipes to love.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
