The Reckless Love Of God

His love bankrupted heaven for you and for me.

There may be mistakes you’ve made that cause you to question if even God could love you still. Here’s your answer: He does.

There is not one thing that can separate you from what God has in store for you. He simply lives you, for you. Not for who you pretend to be, or who the world wants you to be. He loves the you, He made.

Mistakes are simply that -- mistakes. They are things that happened in the past. Your past does not define who you are anymore. Jesus took that away when he died on the cross. You can live in freedom, separate from the worldly judgment, because you are loved recklessly. You are not who you used to be. You're made new.

Luke 15

"Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. the Pharisees and teachers of the law muttered; this man welcomes the sinners and eats with them. The religious people are mad. Jesus told them this parable; suppose one of you has 100 sheep and loses one of them. doesn’t he leave the 99 in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it. And after he finds it he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and he goes home. He calls his friends and his neighbors together and says “rejoice with me because I’ve found my lost sheep.” I tell you in the same way, there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than 99 righteous people who don’t."

Reckless love:

We don’t say that God himself is reckless. He’s not crazy. However, the way he loves is crazy in many ways.

He’s utterly unconcerned with the consequences of his actions with regards to his own safety, comfort, and well being. His love isn’t crafty or slick, it’s not funny or shrewd. In fact, it’s quite childlike, and sometimes downright ridiculous.

His love bankrupt heaven for you and for me. His love doesn’t consider himself first, and it isn’t selfish or self-serving. He doesn’t wonder what he’ll gain or lose by putting himself on the line. He simply puts himself out there on the off chance that you and I might look back and give him that love in return.

His love leaves the 99 to find the 1 every time, and to many that’s a foolish concept. But what if he loses the 99 in finding the one? What if finding that lost sheep is and will always be supremely important? His love isn’t cautious. It’s a love that sent his own son to die a gruesome death on a cross. There’s no plan B with the love of God. He gives his heart so completely, so preposterously, that if refused we would think it had broken. Yet he gives himself away again, and again, and again, and again.

Don’t make the mistake in thinking our sins don't pain his heart. 70 multiplied by 7 is a lot of times to get hurt. Yet, he opens up and lets us in every time.

His love saw you when you hated him, and all logic said you would reject him. He said "Nah, I don’t care what it costs. I lay my life on the line. As long as I get their hearts."

Make it personal. His love saw me when I was at my weakest and questioned who I was. His love saw me when I ran to things to try and fill voids of worldly love. His love sought me out and loves me anyway.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
