Is church something you do on Sundays to be able to say you went, or do you leave feeling like your relationship with God has strengthened?
Is church something you tell others that you do to sound more “Christian”, but only go about once a month?
Is church something thats “okay” to skip when you’re tired, or is it a meeting you have scheduled with the boss man upstairs and you won’t miss it?
Have you ever stepped back and really thought why you go to church?
The majority of church goers go to church so that when they leave they can feel good for the rest of the day. Monday comes and they are back to living the life they lived on Saturday.
Going to church does make you feel good right? You sit next to the person you came with, and luckily the pastor is talking about something that correlates to your life. So, you sit there wishing the whole time that your significant other is listening because you think to yourself “Wow, they really need to hear this so they can straighten up.” Instead of listening to the sermon to benefit your own-self, your thoughts are other places.
When you are so focused on what others are doing and what others are thinking, you cloud your own vision and can’t see what God is trying to show YOU.
Every day is a perfect day to build your relationship with God. He doesn’t want you to come sit in a church on Sundays and draw near to Him for one hour. He wants a relationship with you every single day, for the rest of your life.
He doesn’t want you to come to church on Sundays and only feel great when walking out the door. You feel like you have confidence and strength, just to wake up Monday morning and feel hopeless and miserable.
When you go to church, you learn the word of God, you can worship Him, there are others there that you can encourage and serve, and there is body of people that can pray for you.
When I go to church, I do feel close to God. I feel great that I can experience such a wonderful feeling and be surrounded by others who know they need Him too. It feels great to know that there are people out there that understand, and want to live to glorify Him as well.
The word of God says to draw near to Him and He will draw near to you. When you spend time reading His word, and learning His word, you start to understand what He wants for you. He is here, every day, every hour, every second. Not just on Sundays.
Seek Him and you will find Him. Pray even when you don’t know how too. When you haven’t received an answer, pray it again. As you draw near to Him, your faith will grow, and you will find the answer as to why you go to church.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; "He will never leave you nor forsake you.” “The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6-8
So, back to the original question. Why does church make you feel good? Think about for a little while. Church isn’t meant to make you feel good for an hour or two. God is present at all hours of the day. What if I told you that feeling you get after you leave church, you can have that all the time? I mean, but don’t trust me, it’s only God’s word.
