The Reality Of Today's Fame

Real talent is difficult to find.

Due to our current status in society, generations have changed and obtaining fame has become more of a need rather than a want. There is an immense amount of talentless people becoming famous for the most useless reasons, and I think it has drawn my attention away from the whole idea of fame. Internet celebrities are the new wave and it's not always an honest way of growing into the lights, and I think it’s a cheap, easy way to just get your name out there for making a stupid video. Celebrities have an impact on many people all around the world, so they should promote a certain behavior since they have fans that look up to them. Digital culture has had a huge effect on the way many people of the younger generation go about their daily lives; everything they do is revolved around social media and doing things that those on the internet are doing just to seem “cool” or “up to date” with everything that’s going on.

Ty Burr makes the claim that our society is too involved in the evolution of technology and we are losing our sense of closeness as a whole. Anytime we see glowing indigo, we automatically stray to it and our mind easily wraps around whatever is being played. It’s the way that time has evolved and even though technology has reasonably been an advantage, it has also been a disadvantage. We have come to this idea that everything that we say and do on the internet is all that matters and that is why there are so many people that are famous for reasons that I have yet to understand.

Talent is one thing, but stupidity is another. Fame used to be Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor, etcetera and everyone wanted to be famous because they wanted to be beautiful, rich, talented and live like they owned the world. Audrey Hepburn has been an icon amongst so many generations, and the modern icon is a selfish, untalented, person such as Kim Kardashian.

“As the twenty-first century settles into its second decade, we are more than ever a culture that worships images and shrinks from realities.” (Ty Burr)

People used to work for their fame and have a legitimate talent and fans had an actual reason for wanting what these stars had, and now there are little girls running around with fake nails and plumped lips with booty shorts and their boobs out. Fame has escalated to a point where genuine talent is difficult to find, so people have just given up and started making people on the internet famous.

This society has become too dependent on the way that technology has become a part of the way that we all operate and it has reached the point of no return, it’s too late to fix the issue. It has become almost as easy as taking candy away from a baby to become a celebrity overnight. Celebrities like Kanye West have developed this way of thinking that you can say what you want and people will follow you, and people like him have a huge impact on the younger generation. Instead of influencing children to do better, be better and act accordingly, he teaches them the opposite and it’s not easy for parents to control what their children do. I feel that parental leniency has risen over the years and that’s why the internet has become such a problem. If parents put a hold on the technological usage in their children’s lives, they’d have more control over how they behave towards not only the family but society as a whole. Kids often go out into the world thinking that they’re on top of the world because the tiny machines in their hands allow them to mask their true identity so more often than not, it makes one feel as if they are better than they truly are.

Growing up with restrictions, I was glad to see myself not conform into total oblivion and melt my brain away with computers, phones and television. Granted, my behavior was terrible as a child so my experience with technology hasn’t left me a zombie, but even when I was allowed to use the computer or watch television it wasn’t enough to take over my life. It should be implemented into young minds that the internet is poisoning them and there’s more to this life than just getting famous from putting up a stupid video or picture on the Web. Real talent comes from those that work hard to achieve their goals. People like Leonardo DiCaprio weren't handed an Oscar; he had to put in 24 years of hard work and dedication which is very rare to find these days. We could, although, decrease the use and dependency of technology in regard to fame and such.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
