Evenings are filled with solitude. Quiet and sleepless nights filled with the city of thoughts. A place where you can see what you think, hear what you do not speak, and feel what is not there. A place where dreams become reality.
Impulses accelerate the pace of your heart. Chills fill your spine. Your head becomes heavy and your body weak. Now, take those images and turn them into your surroundings. Open your eyes and what do you see, but the world around you. In your mind, you see what you perceive as perfect, but you live in a society where not even the smallest micron is perfect. You accept this as your reality. But, how real is reality?
Those roses your boyfriend gave you last night because he loves you, that you just ADORED because they smelt amazing-- yes, that's your perception. Feeling your toes in the warm sand on Tybee Island one evening in June-- still perception. Your jealous tendency when you see two people kissing-- perception written all over that too. In the time it took you to read that paragraph, you created individual images. They each made you feel some type of way. You and person x, y, and z may have felt things in similar or totally different mannerisms. The point is, you felt something. You perceived something some way to make chemicals in your brain react a certain way and do some science within your body.
It's all about perception. How we see something, how we feel about something, how we hear something, is all perception. You see a red rose, he sees a flower. You hear rain, he hears a melodic chorus. You feel your heart racing, he sees the changes in your face and body language. We are all different beings, so how we perceive "reality" is how our brain pictures our world. Since it is human intuition to strive for perfection even though it is impractical, we rely heavily on our thoughts, dreams, and perceptions to do this for us.
Let's look at a quick example. Think of the heart symbol. It's probably red in color. Has a "v" shape at the bottom and two hill-like structures at the top. Got that image in your mind? Great. Now think of the human heart (subtract the aorta, pulmonary arteries, pulmonary veins, inferior vena cava, and superior vena cava from the equation). A little more difficult to do unless you've taken an anatomy class. But, the structure of the heart has a base (resembling a hill-like structure) and an apex (sort of looks like that "v" we talked about earlier). Notice any similarities? Differences? So, what if we took two human hearts and had them mirror each other. We'd have what looks like the heart symbol, right? But you would have never guessed that just by looking at the symbol. You may not have perceived it as such. Once the image was described though, you could perceive it.
Now, what if I told you that the heart symbol is metaphorical for love. OK, seems logical. Two human hearts combine to create one symbol; without one, the symbol is incomplete. To be one heart without the presence of another makes you feel different than when both hearts are together. Maybe a sense of incompleteness, loneliness, fear, or hardship. And maybe for some, it gives you a sense of freedom, adventure, joy, and command.
The world around you will only be as perfect as you perceive it to be and your mind will always give you the best vision into a perfect world. The fact of the matter is, we all perceive things differently. You may think that guy falls for girls too quickly and you make rash judgments towards him; maybe he's just lonely and needs someone to talk to. When we start to look at how others perceive the world, we gain insight to how imperfect life really is. The world is filled with flaws, but how we see it, makes it perfect for us.
