The Realities Of Failing A Class

Unfortunately for everyone, more often than not there comes a time when a class really just gets the best of you. Whether it's something that's just too hard for you or a class that you decided to slack off in and are feeling the repercussions, failing a class is horrible. It's stressful, it's embarrassing and it's pretty disheartening when you try your best and continue to fail. You can schmooze your way to extra credit if you're lucky, or you may just have to take the L on this one, but just know that you're not the only person who has failed a class.

1. At some point, you may find yourself taking a class that's required but doesn't interest you at all.

2. You leave all your work for this class for one day — the day before it's due, of course.

3. You go online to check your grades and are disappointed, to say the least.

4. You immediately become a math whiz as you try to calculate exactly how badly you can do on the next few tests and still pass.

5. You vent to your friends about it constantly, especially about how you'll probably end up failing out and never see them again (they talk some sense into you, thankfully).

6. You get another bad grade and have no choice but to grovel for some sympathy or extra credit from your teacher.

7. When your parents ask how your grades are this semester.

8. You may get pretty discouraged by the whole thing — it sucks when you try your best and still can't get it. Failing is exhausting, honestly.

9. You may even consider just dropping the class, which may work best for some people.

10. You have to really sit down and dedicate yourself to doing your best and save your grade while you still can.

11. And, by the work of some miracle, you may actually pass.

No one likes failing a class, but just know that it's not always the end of the world. Sometimes we have to take classes that just aren't for us, and more often than not that will lead to some less than desirable grades left on our transcript. Just remember that one bad grade in a class isn't the end of the world, you're still awesome. If it's a class that you really just can not get yourself interested in, just power through and you'll be done with it before you know it.

If you really are stressed about failing a class, go for extra help or talk to the teacher and express your concerns. Surprisingly enough, teachers don't want to fail us, so they'll be more than willing to help and figure out something that will work for you. Don't give up because you got a few failing grades or didn't pass a few tests, it's all just a part of finding your groove at college.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
