This conversation needs to be had and a few things need to be said.
Regardless of what you've seen in mainstream media or what you have read online, there are two stories. There's the truth and then there is what the media wants you to believe. Then there happens to be the real truth that has legal binding docs with actual facts in it. But there is also my truth as well as a lot of other people who've sat down researched and poured hours of blood, sweat, and tears into seeing if the pipeline is really doing what the media is claiming.
So here we go:
The Dakota Access Pipeline is a 1,172-mile, 30-inch diameter pipeline that will connect Bakken and Three Forks production areas in North Dakota to Patoka, Illinois. The pipeline is intended to cut down the cost and provide oil in an easier and more efficient way. Not to mention that the pipeline will provide 100k more barrels of oil a day. Furthermore, cutting down and eliminating the extremely dangerous way that oil is being transported right now. The pipeline also sits 92 feet behind the riverbed and there is going to be a new water intake system. This pipeline is also not on tribal land. The Dakota Access Pipeline is also going to create eight thousand to twelve thousand local jobs, significantly boosting the local economy.
As many of you have read and watched on TV there have been multiple protests, which have included veterans who were misled. These vets were led and pulled in by Wes Clark. So, to you Wes Clark: you should be horrified and ashamed of yourself. You rallied vets to come be apart of a protest and stand for something they believe in, but you wronged them and took all of their money that they raised and donated. Now most of these veterans are stranded because of a snow storm and have nowhere to go. Thank you, Mr. Clark, for yet again misinforming people.
This fight isn't justified what so ever. I'm sorry but whatever you are reading or listening to is completely wrong. The oil company has all the right legal channels to do this. They've had more than 400 meetings on cultural surveying and looking into the tribe. So for those who are saying that they are stealing tribal land and are so concerned, why didn't the Standing Rock Sioux tribe oppose to the pipeline by showing up to any public meetings?
The treaty of 1868 reconstructed the boundaries. AKA it's not the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe's land. Also, the treatment of the Indian’s in the past has nothing to do with what's at hand now. That argument holds ZERO validity. Resorting to that type of argument is basically throwing a pity party for yourself and others who are over it all. But to all, saying that the federal announcement was a victory, a reality check: it is only a temporary suspension.
But all in all, I feel bad. I feel bad that people have chosen to believe the horrible false accusations against the oil companies. I feel bad at people are ignorant enough to believe the media, celebrities, and politicians before doing research and making their own character judgments instead of character assassinations.
So, to all, it's time to grow up and move on.
