The Power Of Creative Writing

Many people may wonder, "What kind of influence can creative writing have on the world when it is all made up?" For me, creative writing had an immense impact on my life and ultimately took control of my future.

To some, creative writing is an outlet to express yourself by escaping from reality and creating your own world. For a little while, you are able to pretend that your problems don't exist, and that you have total control over what happens next. With creative writing, you always call the shots, nothing occurs if you don't want it to, and there is no outside force that can shake the foundation. Then, there are those who use the worlds they imagine to mirror an alternate reality to fuel an alter-ego as they live vicariously through the characters they create.

Those who have not written much creatively may pass it off as "simple" or "easy." However, as someone who has been a creative writer for a decade now, I still struggle with aspects of it. I still find it difficult to eloquently describe something in a story, regardless of how many times I scour the thesaurus for an adjective I haven't overused yet. Despite years of practice, I will find myself getting writer's block, unable to think of where I should further go with the development of my work.

Creative writing is important to keep alive because one of the main sources of entertainment is fiction. The television shows you watch are fiction, most novels for our age group are generally fiction, and movies, too. Without them, the world would be much more dry and boring.

This creativity is influenced by those before us with vast imaginations. Those who can create a whole new world from scratch in their mind, whether the inspiration came from something else or not. Those who can create characters with their own struggles and traumas to go along with the respective world.

My writing is influenced by those whose works I have read until I could recite each line. Past writers influence writing because they set the stage for developments of new ideas. In my work, I have used common concepts used by my favorite works, but put my own twist on them so they are original. I will see an element that I like and alter it so that it morphs into a creation of my own.

Creative writing is essential because it provides color to a world of black and white. It encourages people to hope, even if they have nothing to hope for. It gives joy to those looking to be cheered up. Creative writing brings imagination to life.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
