"Teachers have the most important job on the planet, yet they're underpaid? No wonder so many students are short changed. Let's be honest, teachers should earn just as much as doctors because a doctor can do heart surgery and save the life of a kid but a great teacher can reach the heart of that kid and allow them to truly live. See, teachers are heroes..."
In my Cultural Foundations of Education class, we often discuss education and the problems and issues within education, as well as the benefits. However, we recently discussed the difference between education and schooling (they do not mean the same thing).
Schooling is more so how you were taught and competition is tied in with it. For example, students everywhere in the country take some form of a standardized test. They are set up to only where some can pass and some fail. Students compete against each other to see how well they do and their achievement as success.
Education, at least to me, is like balancing round stones. For example, society wants schools to have classrooms that develop creative students but also have an order to it all. Teachers balance these round stones in education by trying to keep creativity within education and keeping an order in the classroom.
Education is more essential to our learning than most people think. Teachers are important and deserve more of a praise than they receive. If you watch the following video, then you will see what it is like in the country today: The People Vs. The School System.
