I am one of "those people" who does not agree with gay marriage/homosexuals. I do not want to vote for Trump or Hillary, and I do not want Target to change their bathroom policies. How selfish is this? It is really strange how the United States wants to argue about and protest the things that do not really matter. We have become so selfish as a community. We always have some personal or selfish reason why we fight or argue for or against things, not because we are affected, but because we are naturally selfish people.
All of this passion drives us to do things, but why can't we use that passion for more productive and influential purposes?
For example, why should we vote for Donald Trump? If we vote for him, he will make our country even more selfish. Instead of using his money to help the community and show love to families, he uses it to gain more money and make a TV show. In an interview with President Obama, he says that presidency is an actual job, a hard job, and it isn't some reality TV show. Additionally, I saw on the news that recently a section of the border between the U.S. and Mexico was opened for 15 minutes to allow families and relations to be united for a few moments to hug. If we deport millions of people like this, families and children will be separated forever. Why can't we as a nation help those who want a better life or at least help their country?
We should be passionate about finding a president that will love families, who has a wife/husband who will be active in society, who will play with children in the White House, and who will honor people, not himself or herself.
We have gotten so caught up in this "bathroom issue" at Target that it has clogged every news website enough for us to have forgotten about the earthquakes in Ecuador and Japan that have killed over 660 people, not to mention the flooding in India. All of these disasters are putting human beings' lives at risk. Is this not more important than our presidential debates, bathroom policies, and gay-rights marches?
Why can't our headlines be splattered with good works, developments in organizations that help the less fortunate in our communities? There are 7.125 billion people in this world and we cannot take care of the majority of the 318.9 million people in the United States that need the most help.
The priorities of our nation are severely twisted.
Maybe we should be talking about the Olympics that are coming up this summer and celebrating the best of the best and their amazing, God-given talents that amaze their nations so much. Or about students graduating and influencing younger kids.
Our views are getting so tangled that we are forgetting to think about the other seven billion people in this world. It is important that we work together and focus on the bigger things that matter, like people's lives, meaningfully investing time in things, and not dwelling. I think we can do this.
