Country, jazz, punk, heavy metal, screamo...the list goes on and on. There are so many different genres of music out there and everyone gravitates to certain ones because they resonate with the melodic tune, lyrics, beats, and in general it encompasses their personality and aesthetic. For me it has always been indie music. Lyrics that you wouldn't necessarily hear on the radio, beats that are from another world, and overall completely genuinely talented. But were to start? There are so many musicians that are currently undiscovered by the masses, so, to make it a lot easier here are some artists and songs to dip your toes in.

TABA CHAKE - WALK WITH ME

A sweet romantic song about falling in love that is accompanied by the ethereal sounds of a ukulele.

ANUV JAIN - OCEAN

A beautiful reflective song that takes soul searching to a brand new level. Anuv, just like Taba, uses the ukulele to bring simplicity back into the world of music. Anuv wanted to strip down the beat of the song to make it easy on the ears for the listener.

CHELSEA CUTLER- YOUR SHIRT

Chelsea brings back nostalgia in a whole new way with this unique track of beats that lays under the meaningful lyrics. Even though it is a thoughtful and meaningful song it is hard to not dance to the beat that accompanies the song.

JESSE RUBEN - THIS IS WHY I NEED YOU
A love letter in song form is ultimately the best way to describe this song by the insanely talented Jesse who has made an massive impact on how songwriting is done, and with this song it is easy to see why.

JESS BENKO- A SOULMATE WHO WASN'T MEANT TO BE

We all have missed out relationships that we thought were going to be the end game, but in the end they weren't and that's what this soulful somber song is all about.

WINTER AID- THE WISP SINGS

We all need to get away for a day or two, just go out into nature or dive into our paintings and books and just find ourselves from time to time, and that is the story being told between the lyrics of a miniature love song. It is from another world, and it helps you ease into the world of indie music.

THE CRANE WIVES- THE MOON WILL SING

This band brings the world of folk into the way they create their music, and the song The Moon Will Sing is a perfect example of the amazing creations that they produce. If you are into country or folk music this band is a perfect stepping stone into indie music.

SIBYLLE BAIER - FORGET ABOUT

Stripped down to nothing but an acoustic guitar and a light soulful voice that sings passionately and softly is what Sibylle produced with this song. If you are into somber music this is where you need to go.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
