After four long and empty years, Adele is back. Yeah, you know that girl that beat the Vevo record for most views in one day. Adele’s new single, “Hello” has seamlessly enveloped the world with its entirety. The video has hit 134 million views on YouTube and is currently sitting number one on the iTunes chart; all this in just six days. That’s crazy but well deserving. Oh, Adele. You talented soul. You have done it again.
Intelligently titled, “Hello,” this single is Adele’s way of reminding everyone that she still exists. She starts with such a simple line, “Hello, it’s me,” conveying her entrance back into the music world. Listening to this song for the first time, I got goosebumps and I know I’m not the only one that experienced that. Her recognizable, soulful tones were ultimately missed and accepted back into the hearts of mine and many others.
I think I've always had Adele in the back of my mind throughout these years. I still listen to her other albums as I'm sure a lot of us do. I find it extremely impressive that after such a long break, Adele is back and ready to conquer. Adele did mention in an interview that her break was for her family, but most singer/songwriters would extend that break to a lifetime. Thank you, Adele, for not leaving us forever because without your moody songs, how would I mourn my unsuccessful relationships and breakups (not that I have any, I just pretend to when I listen to her).
So, why did she take the four-year break? Adele opens up about her time away from her career in a facebook post.
“I feel like I've spent my whole life so far wishing it away. Adele wrote on her Facebook page. My last record was a break-up record and if I had to label this one I would call it a make-up record. I'm making up with myself. Making up for lost time. 25 is about getting to know who I've become without realising. And I'm sorry it took so long, but you know, life happened."
This record-breaking single is from her new album “25” which will be released on November 20th.
As for the rest of the album, Adele said to expect a bit of drama. “Just because I like to be dramatic. I’m a bit of a drama queen,” she said. “There’s nothing that’s more poignant in my life than there is in anyone else’s life. It’s just that I write about it, so it kind of lasts forever.” The drama is what works. So don't worry Adele, we are completely OK with that.
I’ll leave you off with this: next time you go through an emotional experience, listen to some Adele if you don’t already. It’s life changing. Also, for those who haven’t experienced the fantastic comeback single, “Hello,” you need to get on that right now.
