I’ve begun to worry about our Mother Earth. Earlier this March she sent us a beautifully sunny day in the mid to low 60s. And just this past week, there was an inch of snow on the ground. Throughout the past 30 days, we have seen ups and downs in temperature, overcast and sunny, cloudy and rainy, and then sunny and warm.
Now, I’d like to think I’m a relatively smart person and I know that correlation doesn’t necessarily mean causation but in this case, I think the evidence presented in front of our eyes is too glaring to ignore. The weather is not correlated like it used to be. Now, anything can happen and it’s all up for grabs. The non-correlation of the weather would lead any relatively intelligent person to think something is wrong. Something is very wrong. Now, to be clear, this article is not a bashing of those who disregard global warming. It is simply a localized and observant person giving his observations.
I currently live in a small town outside of Rochester, New York and it’s called Geneva. To be fair, weather in this part of New York State has never been that correlated – to an extent – but weather is becoming more and more extreme. I recall last winter when we were hammered with snow and Buffalo, at one point, had many feet of snow on the ground and in some places the temperature reaches inhumanely low points, with wind-chill in the negative-teens.
I won’t pretend to know a lot about science or meteorology or climatology, but I will state that my evidence is before me. I live in it. And like I said, I’ve begun to get worried. There is simply no foreseeable way that these non-correlated weather patterns (if you can even call them patterns) are in any way not tied to global warming and severe climate change across the planet we call home.
Just a few weeks ago there was an article on the front page of The New York Times noting that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet could melt and cause the sea to rise five or six feet by the year 2100. And if you’ve ever seen James Balog’s documentary “Chasing Ice” you’d understand that ice is melting. And it’s going fast.
I could probably talk as long as the Mississippi on this topic but don’t you worry, I won’t. Because I want to let the evidence speak for itself. Just take a look, as I have, on the average temperatures year round, by month, of the place you live. And ask yourself, is this what we have had this year so far? And then after you’ve done that, ask yourself again, in a world where most of the climatologists and scientists are saying there’s a real problem, and this weather has been occurring, is there a real problem? And if you get another answer other than yes, then I suggest watching the documentary I just mentioned.
