Kids, teens, and even adults have begun to latch onto a new trend, Fidget Spinners. Fidget Spinners have been around for quite some time now, but are suddenly being obsessed over. This device, or toy if you will, was invented for children with Attention Deficient Disorder, ADD, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, ADHD, and anxiety. Due to the outrageous numbers of children bringing these toys to school, they are now being banned in the classroom, so children who actually need this to succeed are no longer allowed to satisfy the need to move.
The lack of background knowledge on these devices is hurting the education of children who need a third party, such as the fidget spinner. The name is crucial for the desired use, children who fidget in their seats at school. This device allows them to move their hands and fingers around so they are not tempted to get up and walk around or tap their fingers on their desks. This toy, however, is not the cure to any of these disorders, but rather just a tool to guide those who have it.
If you're a parent reading this and your child does not have ADHD, ADD or anxiety, please, consider parents with children who do have any of those disorders and recognize the reliance these children have made on these toys to get through the school day. So I encourage everyone to not buy this device unless they need it. I can't tell you not to put the fidget spinner in your shopping cart, but I can convince you to try to put it back on the shelf and save it for someone who truly needs it.
It's important to try to become more aware of your surroundings and those around you. Even following the latest trend can damage someone else's life, big or small. I'm not telling you to pour hours upon hours of research on everything you do, but I am asking you to stop and think for a moment, "Will this effect someone else?"
