Recently, I got my first tattoo, and I noticed that I was answering the same questions over and over. It's as if there was a checklist that every person who noticed my tattoo had to go over. It's been about two months since I got it, so I've pretty much gotten everyone up to speed. But the next thing I know, I'll see someone from high school who hasn't seen it and boom – the questions. So here are the questions that I'm sure everyone with a tattoo (or tattoos) is sick and tired of answering.
1. What does it mean?
It means stop asking me what it means. I get that people see it and are curious, but I'm just exhausted from, one, teaching people what an ampersand is, and, two, justifying why I put one on my body forever.
2. Are you sure about that with getting a job?
*screams internally*
Tattoos are not that uncommon anymore and plenty of working adults who pay their taxes have them. Also, I do have the ability to cover it up if I had to, but I'd rather show off my awesome ink because, frankly, it isn't going anywhere.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
3. You do realize that's forever right?
Obviously.
4. How much did it cost?
None of your business! Sorry, but I feel like when people ask me this they are judging me for how much I spent to put a punctuation mark on my body forever. I've seen people spend a lot more money on a lot worse ideas.
5. Does [insert boyfriend/girlfriend's name here] like it?
For the record he does like it, but I would have gotten it regardless. At the end of the day it's my body and I'll decorate it how I please. Of course I got his input and he helped me with the idea, but it was my decision.
So there we have it boys and girls. If you know me, now you know what not to ask. But seriously, it's not a big deal. My tattoo is meant to express myself and I love sharing it with other people.
