I don't know if you can relate to this or not but I have a problem with wanting to do everything.
I like to be busy.
If my schedule has an empty day I will find something for me to do. Relax is not in my vocabulary. I like to constantly be on the move.
Which is great! I'm productive, I'm never bored and a lot of times I am doing things for other people.
And who doesn't want to help other people out?!
1. The Go-Getter
You love helping people or doing things for other people. Whether it is your job or playing an intramural sport or being involved in an organization. You are doing something for someone.
And this is nothing to feel sorry about! It is so great that you are a go-getter and get things done. Especially if it's for others.
But then comes the burnout. And this is where you sigh and go "I know..."
When you are constantly moving and doing things you don't take time to breathe. You have school, work, organizations, friends, boyfriend/girlfriend, volunteer, intramurals, workout, bible study, oh don't forget to call mom.
2. The Build-up
All these things seem manageable at first. And they probably are! You know how to manage your time and how to handle stress and high pressure.
But then it happens day....
after day...
after day...
And soon you start to get tired. And you wanna take a break and you can't cause you have things to do, people to see, dad's to call.
You start to stress because you start falling behind because you go to bed a little earlier so you got behind on your chapter readings. Then you have a quiz you aren't prepared for so you stress and mess up at work.
Things start going wrong. And keep going wrong and so you start to stress.
you stress and stress and then you have
3. The Breakdown
It happened. You panic. You start to stress because now you are too far from getting back on your feet and you begin to wonder how to stand back up.
You can't breathe. It feels like you're having an anxiety attack. You may even start to cry and wonder how did you get here.
4. Breathe
This is the most important step. Because this is when you realize that you can't do it all. And that's okay. I am telling you that it is okay that you can't do everything. Cause guess what? NO ONE CAN! And that's okay.
It's not because you aren't capable of doing something or that you did anything wrong. It's because you need time to sit back and breathe. You need to ground yourself. It is good to look at the world around you and bring yourself out of your little world and look at everything around you. Go people watch or go to a park, look at the stars at night.
Whatever helps you relax and reminds you that you are only a human and not Superman (or Wonder Woman).
It is okay to say no. It is okay to want to take time for yourself. It is okay to stay home and relax. It is OKAY!
You can't do it all. And you will try and try again. Even me telling you these things, and you know who you are, you still will roll your eyes and say "Yes I can" even though you know I'm right (;
Takeaway: It's okay to be busy. It is okay to be involved. But it's also okay to take care of yourself.
