Dinner with friends? Date with your Tinder match? Going back to your old high school football game? No problem. Nothing leggings and a t-shirt can't be for. Sure, you skim through your closet and see that sweater you picked out for your mom to get you for Christmas and those new dark wash jeans you saved up to buy...
But nah.
I mean, you have on mascara and you straightened your hair today. Two out of three isn't bad. Who are you trying to impress?
Being consistently casual is truly a lifestyle. To be completely honest, it takes about as much effort to throw on a t-shirt and norts that it does to throw on jeans and a Piko. As convenient? Yes. As comfy? Absolutely not. You could sleep in your day clothes they're so comfy. You cannot beat that. It becomes second nature, and you slowly but surely begin to realize that whether you are going to your 8 a.m. class or going to dinner with your boyfriend who is wearing khakis and a polo, you pretty much always wear the same thing. You may even "dress it up" with some stud earrings, monogram necklace, or a flannel around your waist for a little pizazz. Or even get a little more crazy because it's a Friday and wear booties instead of your Nike tennis shoes. He'll probably complain that "you never dress up for him anymore" and your mom will probably passive-aggressively remind you that "you are going in public to see people" with her today, but you do not break. You don't even really second guess your outfit at this point anymore. It's practically second nature. Your friends are always more than prepared for the "do I have to get cute" text from you after they ask you to do something with them. And oh, do not even get me started on going to the bar. Hair, full makeup, cute shoes, top, bottom, and jewelry? You basically do it for the free drinks you know those freshmen boys will buy you because you look that good. But even with that, it's still a struggle. But hey, you dressed up. So you don't have to do that again for another month or so, right? Isn't that how it works? Who cares. You'll opt to be casual at the next outing anyway.
Thus the question arises: why? Why not just get cute? Why consistently be casual? Because you know what. You're in college. You have class five days a week (even though you prob only attend three times), and you are tired. So go for it, girl. Put on that short sleeve, oversized, comfort t-shirt. Grab your favorite norts or leggings. Pick up and put on those crew socks and tennis shoes. And do the dang thing.
The few. The proud. The consistently casual.
