ISIS recently released a video threatening to attack the United States and their allies on Sunday November, 15, making the “hit lists” ISIS produced targeting military personnel and 23 states earlier in 2015, more worrisome than before. Meanwhile, France retaliates against Syria.
On Sunday November 15, 2015, ISIS released a video hours after the assault on Paris threatening to attack the United Sates. These threats have made the past threats ISIS has stated earlier in the year, more worrisome than before. While the United States is dealing with the threats placed on them, France has already begun their retaliation on Syria.
The video consisted of a member of ISIS forcefully saying to the camera the group’s intended threats to America.
“I swear to God a similar day France went through, you will go through too. We will strike America and it’s strong hold, with God’s will,” the member of ISIS threatened.
This video was taken within hours of the Paris attacks.
According to Nick Walsh a reporter for CNN, ISIS has made threats before.
The “hit list” or “kill list” reported in March and June of 2015, threatened 23 states, 55 cities and 100 military personnel earlier in 2015.
Spokane and Seattle, Washington and Bonners Ferry, Idaho are among the 55 cities threatened, News Channel 10 published.
The 100 military personnel were also threatened in March 2015.
After these threats were reported Naval Criminal Investigative Services (NCIS) advised the families of military personnel to stay inside and to take the threats heavily, Catherine Herridge, a correspondent for Fox News, said.
ISIS did not follow through with their threats back in 2015.
However, since the most recent threats happened so soon after the terrorist attacks on Paris, it appears that ISIS wants this war to happen, Walsh said.
In response to ISIS’s attacks on Paris, France attacked back the next day with 20 separate air strikes around Raqqa Syria. As well as shooting down 116 vehicles traveling to eastern Syria which were assisting ISIS with oil transportation, according to Walsh.
While France has already begun their retaliation, America must analyze their reaction to the threats released by ISIS, just a few hours after the bombings in Paris.
The release of ISIS’s threatening tapes to America are solely threats at this point, however, America should do all they can to prevent them from happening.
A member of ISIS claimed their group will do the same thing to America that they did to France.
Multiple videos that ISIS has released since the attacks on Paris have threatened to blow up the capital in Washington D.C.
However, James Comey, the Director of the FBI, does not think there is any direct threat to the U.S.
Comey’s claim seems reasonable due to ISIS not following through with threats in the past.
Like Comey, I agree there is most likely not an actual threat to the U.S.
ISIS is trying to scare the U.S and by bombing Paris they are attempting to show how powerful they are. Like the threats of the 55 cities and 100 military personnel made earlier in 2015, the attack on France was also a scare tactic.
Their threats at this point seem solely as threats, and are using Paris as evidence that they will actually follow through with their intimidations.
However, with all that said, I do think America should take this situation lightly.
Even if past threats have failed to happen, a threat to harm the U.S. like they did to France, can begin a cause massive devastation to our country and start a war.
It is our duty as a country to protect those who live here and our Allies.
Since the November 13th attacks on France, major steps have been taken in regards to France fighting back.
On Sunday, November 15th, only two days following the terroritst attacks, France sent an air raid to a major ISIS capital, called Raqqa.
Raqqa is a main training base for ISIS members, it provides them with not only a major communication and recruitment base, but immense ammunition storage as well.
It was their so called "Capital" and France's military took action on it within hours of being notified of its coordinates.
Some are arguing that this air strike will only add more fuel to the fire behind ISIS's motives and only increase the intensity of the attacks, however it is no question that this has done significant damage to their entire force.
Since the airstrikes, ISIS has responded with the possibility of supposed "immediate" threats, not only to France but to the U.S. as well.
It is now up to our Nation's leaders to decided wether or not we are going to sit back and watch this all unfold, or if we are planning on meeting them halfway. It seems as though either way, there will be extreme give and take.
However, there is no price to be placed on terrorism.
