The Inner Monologue Of A Fifth Year: Party

It was the weekend. He could finally let a little loose after the long, hard week of one class per day, except on Wednesday's. He's got two on that day. He woke up Friday promptly at 8:27 a.m. wishing he could sleep longer, but his body was still wired to get up at the "crack of dawn". He checked his phone to see if he had missed any texts from the night before.

Text one: "Brooooo..... where are you!?!?! This party is lit (fire emoji)!!!"

Text two:" D1. GET HERE NOW!!"

Text three: "Duuuuude you are missing out...."

"Thirsty Thursday at it's finest. Looks like I missed a good one," he said.

Scrolling through Snapchat, he realized that he did in fact miss a great party. But whatever, he and his roommate started "Lost" on Netflix and that night was #hellaturnt.

"Welp, might as well get up."

He took on the day with coffee at 9:30, his trip to the little boy's room at 10, and brunch a la cart at 11:30. He turned on Netflix and seeing that nothing caught his eye, he decided to download HBO Go to the Xbox. Catching up on "Ballers"Season 2, he checked the time and saw that it was 2:37 in the afternoon.

Upon checking the time, a text came in from one of his roommates asking him if he wanted to hit up the bar that night since they hadn't done anything since they all moved in.

Realizing that he was letting precious gym time slip away he quickly changed and headed out.

Returning home, he looked to see if his roommates' cars were there. They were.

He walked in and he heard, "Hey man, how was the gym?"

"It was alright, not many people, just the way I like it. Y'all making dinner?"

He knew they were making dinner, he was just trying to make conversation.

"So what's the plan for tonight?"

"We were thinking checking out the brewing company since we've never been there," Keith said.

"Perfect, what time?"

"Around 8:30 or so." Donny replied.

Smelling himself he hopped in the shower and changed. While they were all getting ready to leave, he did the triple tap.

"Phone? Keys? Wallet? I'm all good, let's go." he thought.

Upon their arrival to the bar, they all huddled around the beer menu and all ordered the same thing.

Getting their beers, they picked up their glasses, and cheers.

After finishing two beers, they made the decision to check out their old fraternity, Alpha Rho Upsilon.

Walking through the backdoor of the house, they saw that it was virtually empty. It wasn't the greatest sight, since they had left the house in pretty good standing on campus socially.

"Are we sure this is the same house? Where is everybody?" he thought.

To his surprise, everyone was in their rooms and only two people were willing to go out. They gathered as much beer as they could pack and headed out.

The got to the first house, and he looked at the two and said, "Alright, let's go. Who's first?"

Kevin walked in first, he followed, and then Randall. Upon entering the house, he saw people dancing on top of the coffee table and freshmen wearing white t-shirts with writing on them.

Looking around he thought, "What is this!?!? Who are these people!?!?"

They walked through the throngs of people, found their spot and didn't move. Yelling to be heard over the loud music, they had a conversation about this and that.

People came and went, and a couple more friends showed up. They walked out to the backyard only to see more people standing outside.

"When did all these people show up?"

Walking around for a second, he looked at his phone and saw someone was calling him. He walked away to answer and when the conversation was finished he returned to the backyard to find that none of his friends were anywhere to be found. Looking at his phone, he saw it was 12:13 a.m.

He said "screw it" and ran 3/4 of a mile back to his apartment in flip flops.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
