How does the past and present shape the future?

Hello there, the name is Future, but my friends and family like to call me “Inevitable.” See, I’m going to tell you about my story; particularly, how I was born from two very special parents that really shaped me into who I am today: Past and Present.

My dad, Past, was a carefree spirit that never really had a plan, but all he knew was that he wanted to shoot his shot and make the most out of life. See, Past never really had anyone to learn from, no precedent, no rules to follow, just a blank canvas to start out life. His best friend was the one and only Art. Art and pops go way back. They would always create spectacular pieces that would decorate life. Both Past and Art were full of ambition, full of mistakes, but nevertheless learning. It was not until one day, Art wanted to move on from Past and create a whole new lifestyle. Pops was at a loss because he believed that Art made his environment more alive and vibrant. From that moment on, he told himself he’ll never stay in one place ever again, therefore leading him to run away and to start anew.

My mom, Present, was always cautious about how she lived her life. She heard stories about pops and wanted to make sure that she would never end up like him, meaning she wanted to make more achievements than mistakes. She lived a good life, but not an ideal life. She had become so accustomed to a natural cycle of routines that she couldn’t break out of it anymore. See the natural cycle is so powerful that it could just leave you in mere existence … but that’s the problem. Existing just makes you have a typical, predictable life. She wanted to live, L-I-V-E, live! Existing definitely did help her achieve what she wanted, but she wanted to experience more. Her father, Father Time, always believed there’s no time like Present, but she didn’t think so. She wanted risks, wanted adventures, wanted more life.

It was not until one day, Past caught up with Present. It was love at first sight for them. It was mom’s worst fear to ever come into contact with Past, but she knew that she could learn from him… his mistakes. Pops wanted to learn about how she held herself together so well. Both were definitely in love. Both were definitely vulnerable. They learned plenty from each other. When she looked back, he was always there. She definitely felt safer with pops and would always take daydreams with him to forget about herself. Past was extremely happy with Present; however, Father Time feared that one day Present would become too dependent on Past to make her happy that she would eventually lose herself. He voiced out his thoughts to them, but Pops and Mom didn’t listen, and why would they? They enjoyed each other’s company and that was all that mattered, but Father Time always knew that the inevitable was yet to come.

Soon enough I came along, but also the unthinkable happened. My pops died the same day I was born. I guess you can call it a coincidence or fate, but all I knew was that this tore my mother apart. Growing up I could see that she tried to hide it, but sometimes I could see the little spark in her eyes that she missed him too much for her own good. Letting go of Past was the hardest thing she ever did. She mentioned that if felt like a piece of her soul was gone; however, she did gain more knowledge. She eventually became mentally stronger. Once she let go, she started seeing things clearer. She knew that in order to move on, she couldn’t dwell on Past for the sake of me. On some occasions, Uncle Nostalgia would visit us and tell me stories about pops. I sometimes imagined him in my dreams. One positive thing that came out of that horrible experience was that mom continued to L-I-V-E, live. I guess Father Time always knew that this would come, but he let mom find out for herself. I never had a full image of what my pops was like but I like to think that I have a part of him with me.

My cousins, Imagination and Generation were born the same day I was, which was conveniently great because we grew up together. I know one day Imagination will open doors to anyone who has the mindset to make creations for the world to see. When I create something she always tells me to go bigger because life is too big to not be filled with innovations. Generation will come to see that one day there will be a wave of new trends that will make up a lifestyle for many to come together and share. I remembered one day while we were exploring, Mom pulled me aside and told me something that I will never forget, she said, “The reason why I gave you the nickname

Inevitable was because whether someone is ready or not, you will come in full force to exude your presence. You’re unpredictable because you always keep everyone on the edge. You’re exciting because you can show new possibilities that aren’t available now but soon will be. You are intimidating because you will come all at once and overwhelm many. Future, you are the only one who can give a new definition of life to others. Some will mess you up, and others will thrive. The Past is to make mistakes, The Present is to learn from those mistakes and takes risks, but you, The Future, are the accumulation of what we are working hard for. The sweat, blood, and tears that drip from our determination is, to the best of my knowledge, the best thing to know because there will come a day when we can finally say we made it.”

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
