When my best friend and I were young, the only thing on our mind was adventure. We desperately wanted to have fun. We desperately wanted to laugh and enjoy ourselves. We lived our lives unfettered from judgement, with an unbelievable sense of wonder about the world around us.
Fast forward 8 years and everything is different. I'm caught up in grades and my future, while my best friend struggles through his parents' divorce and adjusts to a judgemental high school life. We're busy, we're distracted, and we struggle to find time for adventure and for each other.
Now, as you grow older, life obviously becomes more difficult. You are burdened with more responsibilities, your actions have more consequences, and you have to think about your future much more seriously. But there is something to be said about that childlike wonder. There is something important about having a childlike sense of adventure in your life.
I'm not saying to spend hours every day playing games and having fun, but it is important to find time doing things you love. Laughter, adventure, joy, these are all important things in life, and to truly be happy you need these things.
So take a day and adventure with a friend. Do something you love, whether that's watching movies all day, or climbing buildings, enjoy yourself. Because as you grow older, you grow busier, and the busier you are the less likely you are to have fun. This life, and the moments we live, are precious. So treat them like they are. Laugh at least once every day, and enjoy yourself. Because the more you do, the happier your life will be.
