The Imperfect

Why the idea of "perfection" is unattainable.

The Imperfect

People strive for perfection. That is literally what we do for all of our lives. In my experience, I realize that being the perfect person will literally kill you, but we continue to try no matter what. It’s okay to not be perfect, but that’s what we set our standards too and then when that gets kinds of botchy and nowhere near perfect we wonder if our standards are too high.

The answer is yes.

In the world, there are different things that could be considered perfect, but let us start with the definition. The definition of perfect that caught my eye was “exactly fitting the need in a certain situation or for a certain purpose.” That’s it. Just think about it. When you’re perfect, it’s not always how everyone else sees you it is just how one person sees you or maybe a group of people or however you see yourself.

The world has many standards for perfection, how your body type is, your hair, your IQ, etc. The world is in constant change to conform itself to whatever it thinks will be the perfect type. I know that sentence didn’t make sense at all, but it made sense somehow and I wrote it. Anyway, perfection is constantly changing just like our thought process and many other things. Being perfect exists in different eyes. People believe that being perfect means that you’re flawless and you lack the ability to fail. Perfection has only been sought by one person – Jesus Christ – and He was saint. The new definition of perfect is something that we as humans made up to assure that there is some kind of perfection out there somewhere.

The world can hurt you and define all of everything you do as not being perfect.

I titled this article imperfect for one simple reason: none of us are. We all want to look a certain way or talk a certain way or walk a certain way for us to reach this peak perfection that we think is out there somewhere and that will hurt us in the long run. Being perfect doesn’t exist because perfect can sometimes be boring. Imagine living in a utopia or something and realizing that there was nothing else that you have to strive for? That is why I am imperfect – I’m not done looking for my purpose. All of us are unperfect people and that’s okay. We just have to continue to strive.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
