“It's a thousand pages, give or take a few, I'll be writing more in a week or two…” I believe that writing is impactful in everyone’s life. Whether it is historical, creative, or even poetry, writing impacts everyone's life. For me, fan fiction, which is creative writing, is genuinely impactful in my life today. It has actively changed me as a person as I mature in the woman I want to be.
When I write, I can show who I am out for the whole world to see. When I am writing, I enjoy bringing out my creative side out into the open. Being a fan of Patrick Dempsey has changed my life. I started watching him act and was immediately drawn to him. Now in part, it is the fact that he is truly is McDreamy, but him, as a person, is truly awe-inspiring. When I came across fan fiction, I decide to bring my creative side out and write something truly different and inspiring, just like Patrick. Writing has been so impactful in my life that I would much rather write fan fiction 24/7, but, unfortunately, you don’t get paid for your writing.
Also, in writing, you get a sense of happiness and pride. When I started writing, I thought that I would never have more than a hundred reads on my story, but today I have over fourteen thousand readers, on just one story, and that number is still going up. Seeing people love what I write is encouraging and shows that I can have an impact on someone’s life. This year, I even had to cancel one of my stories because I couldn't juggle four stories with work and school. I got so many people writing me saying, "You have a real gift for writing" and "Your writing keeps the reader coming back for more." These comments made me stop and think, ‘Was I doing the right thing by deleting all my hard work?' The real sense of pride I get from making a huge impact on people's lives keeps me going.
The last reason writing is such an impact on my life is that it creates an escape from the world around me. Like any other person having to juggle school and a part-time job, I am extremely stressed out. Everyone needs that happy place to go to relax and unwind. For me, writing fan fiction creates that escape that I need to forget the world. Particularly with this past year when I had a very rough year friend wise, I know that I have my wonderful readers who are making me feel loved by other than my family.
Writing has changed the person that I am today. I can feel loved and live my life. It is without a doubt doing what I love demonstrates personality, gives me a sense of pride and lets me escape the crazy world around me. I haven't been a fan of writing until I came across fan fiction, and I now realize that everyone needs to have some form of writing in their life. Remember it can be anything that you want it to be. “…I can make it longer if you like the style, I can change it ‘round, and I want to be a paperback writer."
