Do you live in Dallas and want to get outside and roam about, see all sorts of animals, eat anything you want fried, ride a Ferris wheel? Then the Texas State Fair is for you.
So to start with, I’m not even a Texas native and I’ve gone to the fair twice since I’ve been working down here (jab at those who live here and haven’t gone). The nice thing about the Texas state fair is that it goes on for three weeks in October, right when it’s starting to cool off and a sign that summer really is over and that fall and winter are right around the corner.
Last year I was shown around by a very good guide who instructed me on many of the stops you have to go to. If you go to the fair there’s one definitive place you have to go and get a selfie and take pictures. That’s of course Big Tex.
Getting a Fletcher’s corn dog is a staple as well (don’t worry about the lines, they move quick).
Riding the Ferris Wheel of course is key and for all you people out there that are afraid of carnival rides the great thing about this wheel is that it’s permanently stationed there. It does NOT move, so you shouldn’t have any issue with riding it.
If you’re a swifty, then you should definitely go to the fair this year because there’s an exhibit there that displays a lot of her memorabilia, dresses, hand-written lyrics, and a variety of different items that are neat to see.
One of the most enjoyable reasons to go to the fair is the food. You can get anything known to man fried up and there are just as many different things to drink too.
Remember to bring a good pair of walking shoes too, no showing off wearing high heels or something ridiculous like that. Trust me, you’ll feel it later.
So get out of the house and go have some fun!
