Yes, I Have A Traveler's Heart, No, I Am NOT Afraid To Admit It

Maybe you’re me.

Or maybe you’re not. but let’s just say you are. Maybe you suffer from ‘fear of being left out’ syndrome and you’re looking for more than just living. Maybe you’ve lost yourself chasing something you thought you wanted and for one reason or another, you realized it wasn’t what you wanted at all. Maybe you feel like you’re missing out on life, and you’re trying to fill this gap inside yourself. You’re battling this awkward stage where you’re in a rut and you’re living off other people. Maybe you’re like me and you worship vloggers who get paid to travel the world and see/ do amazing things. Maybe you’re at your happiest when you are lost in the city or mountains, and your greatest stories start with “on a whim...” When boring everyday life isn’t enough anymore and there’s a whole wide world out there to discover. If this is you, then you possess a traveler’s heart.

See – we’re all daydreamers. And dream of adventures that we will carry with us until we’re old reflecting back on our younger years and all the shit we did. I used to sit at work, bitter cause my friends were doing something cool and I was stuck at work. Soon that feeling carried with me on weekends and weekdays, no matter where I was. I got tired of a heavy heart, so I threw it away and I started a Mid-year resolution! I work a mon-Friday job and every single Saturday, I travel somewhere new. Whether it be a place an hour away or 4, I refuse to let “F.O.B.L.O” syndrome ruin my day. I want the craziest stories and the wildest adventures that this life has to offer.

So girl, it’s your turn! Get out there and live your life!! Travel every weekend and do one thing a day that scares you. Buy a Polaroid camera and take photos of everything. Keep a journal, or start a blog. Hang photos of your adventures above your bed so when you wake up each morning, you have them to remind you of all the fun a new day will bring. Find what brings you joy and hold onto it cause life’s short and God forbid you waste it.

I challenge you to reach deep down into your adventurous soul and write out 5 things that you want to experience in this life. 5 things that would make the best stories, just to say you did it. (but don’t think they’ll be a picture perfect story cause we’re human and the wildest stories make the best memories). My favorite book “LOVE HER WILD” by Atticus is full of poems and sayings that inspire me to do the things that scare me. One of the quotes in the book reads “Promise me you won’t die having never skinny-dipped in the moonlight of a summer’s night” My hope for you is that you make your life as full of adventure as it can take.

Sincerely,

A Traveler's Heart

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
