There is an artform to cosplay and those who are invested are in it to win it. This is no different at Geeks Out's second annual comic book convention specifically catering to the lgbtq community, Flame Con. Gay geeks from all over the country went to the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Brooklyn to game, to vend, to talk shop with unique an diverse writers, to shop, shop, shop, and to express their inner geek, freak, and fun seeker! Whether it was the Avengers, the X-Men, a Disney villain, a character unique to the cosplayer, or the very spirit of Flame Con, cosplayers embodied nearly every concept a gay geek can think of. Here are some of the best cosplay costumes from Flame Con 2!

1.

These cosplayers look like they are ready to take on the world. Look at the eyes on Big Blue! And Magneto is itching to bend the metal in your blood.

2.

Don't stare into Malificient's staff...she'll put a hex on you!

3.

Bosom buddies Captain America and Winter Soldier. No wonder these two are being shipped!

4.

Batwoman is iconic for being one of the first openly lesbian characters in DC comics. And she's part of the Bat clan dynasty!

5.

These two make you flash back nostalgically to the animated series. Rogue and Storm are powerhouses!

6.

These two original characters look very Rocky Horror Picture Show!

7.

I call this guy the spirit of Flame Con! As the host of the Friday Flame Con 2 kick-off party, he put on an amazing burlesque and Cirque Du Soleil-like performance. A talent in the making, this one.

8.

These lovely ladies are performers in a show called "Planet Wongo", an immersive sci-fi comedy show about two astronauts who land on a planet of warrior women who have never seen men. The show starts on September 28th at the Parkside Lounge. Perfect for any trekkie or sci-fi fan! More info and tickets can be found here.

9.

This costume is absolutely gorgeous!

10.

This disco fiend is pretty to partay!

11.

Elegant and beautiful!

12.

Poison Ivy, with looks to kill.

13.

Usagi, thinking of the Silver Millennium.

14.

This Carnage was scary good.

15.

Superb Nightcrawler. Love the tail!

16.

Nightwing and Flash, killing it!

17.

DC Universe, anyone?

18.

These two take you back to ancient times.

19.

Supergirl, looking hot!

20.

An original performer. Her Ms. Pac-Man performance was great at the kick-off party was great! She makes people laugh and she makes people dance.

Whether you are cosplayer, a cosplayer admirer, or just a person who likes to put on a costume, Flame Con is the place to be. The costumes are great and everyone is letting loose. Geeks Out has created a great little haven for LGBTQ geeks to be who they are and meet like-minded people. Though Flame Con 2 has officially ended, Flame Con 3: Inferno (just an idea!) promises to be spectacular!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
