Chapter 5: The Final Chapter

Aggie and the kids hide behind the barn, waiting for the moon to appear.

"Grandma, how much more do we have to wait? I'm getting anxious," Lauren says.

"Good things come to those who wait, dear. Any minute now the moon will rise and she will appear."

"Hey grandma, now that we know we're magical, are you going to teach us some cool magic spells?" Phil asks Aggie.

"Oh darling, your mother will never let that happen. But then again, I never listen to her. I will teach you guys during the summer when you guys come over," she tells them with a wink.

The wind started to blow colder as the full moon appeared in the sky. Aggie went to the tree and threw the potion she made at its roots.

"Who has summoned me?"

All three of them turn around to see Elizabeth. She was a very beautiful woman, even as a ghost. Her green eyes shined with the light from the moon and her long, brown hair flowed around her shoulders.

"Elizabeth, we are your descendants. We come from the same family line of magic," Aggie explains.

"So then you must know about the curse?"

"Yes we do and we are here to help."

"Nobody knows how to break the curse. My father was a powerful warlock and made sure the curse would not be easy to break."

"Yes, but I have studied our history and your father's background. One thing that your father forgot to do was to bless the spot where he placed Alexander's soul."

"Pardon me, but I do not follow. What do you mean by his soul?"

"The only way your father was able to curse Alexander as a wolf was to take away his soul. He placed his soul in this very tree as a way to hide it from you. But he forgot to bless it so that no one would be able to extract it."

"I will never look at this tree the same ever again," Phil whispers to Lauren.

"So you are saying that there is a way to save my beloved Alexander?" Elizabeth asks with hope in her eyes.

"Yes, my dear. Alexander can be saved at last. But you must call to him for only you can extract his soul from the tree and return it to him."

"I will try but he has been avoiding me. He says it is difficult to see me."

"Try my dear. Your love is too strong for this to fail."

Elizabeth closes her eyes and places her hands over her heart. A black figure appears in the cornfield with the same yellow eyes the children saw a few weeks ago. Phil and Lauren tense up and hide behind their grandmother.

"Shh, it's okay. He won't hurt us," she assures them.

"Alexander, I have called you because this woman, my niece, has told me she knows how to break the curse," Elizabeth tells him.

"Nobody can break the curse," Alexander growls. "Your father made sure of it."

"After all this time, you are just as stubborn as always. Please just let me try."

Alexander walks to his feet and sits. Elizabeth places her hand on the tree and chants a spell in Latin.

Thunder and lightning surround the sky. A gust of wind surrounds Alexander with a bright light. Suddenly, everything stops and before them is the ghost of Alexander, a man once again. He is tall with long black hair and brown eyes.

Elizabeth starts crying and runs to his arms.

"How could we ever repay you?" Alexander asks Aggie.

"Oh nonsense," she responds. "After all, we are family. Take care my darlings and I will see you again soon!"

The two lovers smile and wave at Aggie and the kids. As they walk through the cornfield, they vanish.

"Grandma, that was so cool!" Phil says.

"Yeah, grandma! I want to learn how to be a powerful witch like you!" Lauren exclaims.

"All in good time darlings. All in good time."

The three quietly walk back to the house where their new adventure will soon begin.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
