The Eighth Book, Finally

Albus Severus Potter. The Slytherin.

The Eighth Book, Finally

So the new Harry Potter book came out, or should I say new JK Rowling book. It really isn’t all that much a Harry Potter book. It is said to be the eighth book, nineteen years later. Yes, it does involve Harry Potter but it is completely different from the first seven of her books. It makes sense I guess because it is written by more than just JK Rowling. It has two other authors. It is also written like a play. It actually is the play. It is the first run of the script for the play. (super mad I don’t live in London actually because you cannot see it here.)

The story is more about Harry’s middle child. Albus Severus Potter. I actually love it so very much. I finished the book in four hours. I should’ve paced myself. I love how this story goes on with Albus’ life. Although I do wish it was longer. The book is roughly the size of the first or second novel in the series whereas I wish it was the length of the last. (basically double the size.) Albus Potter is the Potter child that is most different. He believes he is nothing like his father which he finds out later he is much more like him than he ever knew. He is not outgoing like his brother James, who is much in likeness to his father. Magic doesn’t come quite as easily to Albus either. One of the most distinct differences is that Albus Severus is a Slytherin. I LOVE this. I love that one of Harry’s children ended up in the other house that the Sorting hat was torn between with Harry.

The first day on the train Albus and Rose (Granger-Weasley) meet the young malfoy! Scorpius Malfoy, Draco’s son. Him and Albus from that day forth are best friends just like the golden trio (Harry, Ron, and Hermoine.) The first people you meet on the train tend to stick with you apparently.

It skips over most of Albus’ time at Hogwarts. Only tells enough to show that he hates it. It isn’t a place for him like it was for his father. He is bullied because he is in Slytherin not Gryffendor. He is Bullied because he is friends with Scorpius Malfoy who is said to be actual son of Voldemort. (totally not true) It starts to go into detail in Albus’ fourth or fifth year. On the train to Hogwarts Albus and Scorpius decide to jump off and the adventure and danger ensue.

They decide to find the last time turner and go back in time. Albus wants to fix some of the things his father did. He wants to change the fact that Cedric Diggory had to die for his father to live and defeat Voldemort. He wanted to change the past. He hated being his fathers child. He overheard his father talking to Amos Diggory, Cedric’s father, about how Cedric died and Voldemort called him a spare. He Hated that his father is the reason for so many deaths. He wanted to right the wrongs.

This book is the long adventure and lessons learned when you use a time turner. Things can go very badly even if you are doing them for a good reason. You cannot change the past. It will destroy the future. Albus and Scorpius tried to change the past and it definitely changed the future in one scenario it was like normal except for little things had changed like Hermoine and Ron weren’t married so their children were gone, and Albus was in Gryffendor. The second time it got dark. The dark lord had risen and the death eaters won the Battle at Hogwarts, it was a horrible place. Eventually all is righted, but it is a crazy and wild ride. I wish that the three authors would have gone into more detail and made it last longer (don’t we all) but I loved it none the less, and would deffinitly reccommend it to all!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
