When I first found out I was going to be an aunt, I went into a complete shock. Although my siblings are almost six years older than me, I never really realized the age difference until they both decided to move out of the house and start their own lives and it was just me in the house. It was crazy to me that at only 20 years old I was going to be an aunt. I was excited, nervous, and honestly felt like I was getting old really fast. But when that baby girl came into this world, I felt like the luckiest person in the world to be able to call this beautiful baby my niece.
On October 6, 2017, I woke up to a missed call from my brother at 3 AM and I instantly knew what it was about. As I jump out of bed, I am running around the house to get myself together. I should have realized then that labor is not usually a fast thing to happen so I could have taken my time. But here came Auntie Katie at 10 AM rushing through the hospital so I could be there for Joey and Emma. Through the whole 21 hours of labor, I was sitting there anxious and excited because all I could think about was the name they picked out for their baby girl. Before we knew it, at 9:48 PM a beautiful 7lb 2oz baby girl came into this world that I believe changed the Pelak family for the better.
Savannah Joy has melted my heart ever since she has come into this world and I feel so blessed she is here. Seeing the happiness in Joey’s eyes when he is with Savannah makes me so proud to call him my brother. Although we did not have the easiest life growing up, he has showed me that no matter how hard life can get, we will always end up stronger and wiser in the end.
After only two months with Savannah, Emma and Joey have made it look like babies are a piece of cake. I believe that the love they have for their daughter is what makes it look like they’ve been doing this forever. Not only the love they have for Savannah, but the love they have for each other is what helps them get through this and watch their child grow.
Becoming an aunt is an amazing thing, and I am so excited for all the memories we will create with Savannah, and hopefully in the future I can have more nieces and nephews to entertain. *cough cough Kara and Joey* Either way, the Pelak family is now growing and as I am too growing as a person I am able to grow with them and show them how wonderful this world really is.
