Cut The Crap

Removing more than just an illness

Cut The Crap

We have all heard of the term 'Spring cleaning." I've come up with a new slogan called: Life cleaning. It doesn't have to be a new year to make a life change just like it doesn't have to be spring to clean up your house. You can make a change when and if you want to. It does not have to be because of a big break up or family drama. For me it happened to be a tumor at age 18. The depression was the start and the surgery was the last. My journey of changing isn't over yet but it was time for a change. I believe that every once in awhile it is good to cut out the crap.

It takes some time to figure out just what kind of change you need. Through lots of therapy, looking at motivational quotes, writing in a journal, and exercising I learned that it was time for a change even though it wasn't a new year or a new me. It was a different me, one that I did not like. I didn't feel like going out anymore. I gained weight uncontrollably. I barely laughed at things or cracked jokes. I was not the funny, happy person that I know I am.If you feel like you aren't feeling yourself it might not have been physical feeling but emotional. If you feel that way it might be a time to figure out some new ways of happiness.

Stop worrying about everyone else. It is your time to become happy. I took time to focus on myself and I guess that was selfish. I am okay with it. I know that there are people who don't understand why you will choose to make a change. I realized that the people who don't stick around aren't worth the more pain they'll cause. It is okay to lose friends or take a step back from people. It is okay to clear out the people who don't support you or encourage you. I am lucky to have people who have stuck by my side during this journey.

You are not wrong to want change. You should take the time to find the fun in life. When you become unhappy look around and take action. Keep the ones you love close. Do the things that make you happy. Definitely try to keep up with the positives. It is important to keep love surrounding you. Don't do things the dirty way. Make sure when you want to make changes to do it the clean, naturally and healthy way.

Just like I removed a tumor I let go of the things that were not important. Let go of the things you can't control. Find your inner peace. Take time to detox the bad. In with new and out with the old. When we let things build up inside we have to let it go at some point. Take time to do a life cleaning even if it is small.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
