The "Conjuring 2" is the sequel to the surprise hit of 2013 the "Conjuring." I'm not the biggest horror fan, but the first conjuring was a great film and was terrifying. The problem I have with horror movies most of the time, is that they come off more laughable than scary. More often then not they are poorly acted films with really bad directing. But what the conjuring has is director James Wan who's the best horror director working today.
The "Conjuring 2" is a really good fast-paced sequel with high tension throughout the whole movie. The film is based on the true story of 1977 Enfield paranormal investigation by Ed and Lorraine Warren. Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga are back as the Warren's and still have great chemistry as the two investigators.
The stand out though is Madison Wolfe she plays Janet Hodgson, who is a little girl being tormented by a demonic presence and at times the demon takes over her body. Wolfe is only twelve years old, and is responsible for carrying a lot of this film. If she isn't believable in this role the movie does not work. Madison Wolfe is loaded with talent and i'm sure she will be around for a long time. Now I want to get back to James Wan's direction. The story in this movie has been done several times, the concept is nothing new but James Wan's direction is so good it makes the film feel fresh. He never goes for cheap scares like a door slamming that leads to a jump scare, all the jump scares in this film are earned and are not tricks. He does a great job of creating tension throughout the whole movie, I was on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen next. This movie is also two hours and fourteen minutes but it never felt long, the pacing was so fast, I was never bored once in the movie. What he also does well is character, I think the main reason horror movies are generally bad is because of bad characters. When the audience does not care about the characters it takes them out of the movie.
The first hour does a good job of developing Janet and the Hodgson family, it's was really hard watching Janet getting tormented by a demonic presence. This film will divide people on the plot twist that happens. I was personally ok with the twist because I was so throughly entertained throughout the two hours, but I will understand if people think the twist wasn't properly developed. Overall I highly recommend the conjuring two you won't find many horror movies better than this one out right now. I had such a fun experience watching this film and I'm sure you will too.
